Court allows eight Tamil civilians on bail[TamilNet, Monday, 03 February 2003, 17:47 GMT]The Point Pedro Magistrate Monday allowed all the eight Tamil civilians arrested for detaining two soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) at the Kudathanai area on bail and also on condition that they should not enter their village until further notice, legal sources said. The Point Pedro Police Monday produced in court all the eight Tamil youths from remand. The police submitted to court that the suspects had caused injuries to the two-army soldiers. Attorney-at-Law Mr.A. . Vinayagamoorthy who is also a Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian appeared for the all the suspects told court that members of the vigilant committee which has been formed to curb the increase of crimes including robbery in the village during the night on the day of incident had found two persons hidden behind a house. The injuries were sustained when the vigilante members tried to constrain the suspects, the court was told. At that stage the Magistrate Mr.Premshankar ordered bail for the suspects and to report to the Registrar of the court every Friday. Each suspect was allowed in personal bail of two thousand rupees and with two sureties for a sum of five thousand rupees, legal sources said.
