Music, Dance, Drama festival to be held in Trincomalee

A five day North East Tamil music, dance and drama festival is to be held in Trincomalee commencing from March 3rd to March 7th to create awareness among Tamils and to promote peace when the next round of talks takes place between the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Japan, according to a decision taken at the discussion held Sunday evening at Trincomalee Town Hall under the auspices of Art and Literature Committee, sources said.

| The best creations of the northeast at the district level would be given prominent place at the proposed music, dance and drama festival. Artistes from Tamilnadu also would participate at the festival, said Mr.Puthuvai Ratnathurai. The main aim of the festival is to create awareness of the peace process among the Tamils in the Trincomalee district through art, literature, music and theatre, added Mr.Puthuvai Ratnathurai. LTTE’s Trincomalee district political head Mr.S.Tilak, district education unit head Ms Kaaronja also attended the discussion. Committees were formed at the conclusion of the discussion to be responsible for different organizational aspects of the festival to make it a success, sources said.
