Around 2.15pm Saturday near the Forward Defense Line (FDL) of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Kilali in Jaffna district , a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier who trespassed into LTTE controlled area was killed in gunfire, said sources in Jaffna.

Sources say that when women tigers patrolling the areas near the FDL were returning to their guard post near the Kilali FDL, they saw three SLA soldiers who were hiding within the LTTE controlled region, starting to run towards the no-man's land.

The LTTE women cadres shouted at the soldiers to stop running and to raise their hands.

Two soldiers managed to disappear inside the no-man's land, according to sources. The women cadres opened fire when the the third soldier stopped and tried to throw a hand-grenade towards the LTTE women cadres.

The SLA soldier died near the guardpost due to gunshot wounds, sources close to the event reported.

The LTTE has communicated the information to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) members in Kilinochchi and Jaffna district.

Following the notification the SLMM officials visited the scene of the incident and according to their request the LTTE is making arrangements to transfer the body of the soldier through International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to the officials of Government of Sri Lanka, sources in Kilinochchi said.
