[TamilNet, Sunday, 23 February 2003, 12:27 GMT]
A five-hour token hunger campaign was conducted in front of the historic Nallur Kandasamy Temple in Jaffna Sunday to express dissatisfaction of Tamils to the government's failure to implement the ceasefire agreement
fully, sources in Nallur, Jaffna, said.
Hundreds of people participated in the hunger campaign, which commenced
around 9 in the morning and concluded at about 2 in the afternoon. The
Jaffna District Peoples' Forum (JDPF) and the Jaffna District JPs Association
organized the token hunger strike, sources said. Residents of Kayts, Vadamarachchi, Thenmaradchchi and Valigamam areas also
participated in the campaign. They held placards stating that the ceasefire
agreement has not helped them to live peacefully in their own villages with
self-respect. Participants shouted slogans stating that the State armed
forces are engaged in provoking LTTEers to abandon peace process, sources said. President of the JDPF Mr. Solomon Cyril brought the fasting to conclusion
by providing drinks to the participants, sources said.
