Ms Ananthi, head of the Jaffna district LTTE women's wing, hoisted the Thamileelam national flag. Professor A.Shanmugathas lit the traditional oil lamp.
Jaffna university lecturer Mr.S.Sithamaparanathan presided the workshop. LTTE women leader Ms Thamilini, in her keynote address, said Tamil women had made remarkable contributions to the Tamil national freedom struggle in par with men. "In Vanni region women can freely move without any fear or threat to their lives or their personal safety. It is different in Jaffna district. Women are subjected to continued suppression in Jaffna, which is under the occupation of the Sri Lanka Army. Women should rally round to defeat any form of suppression against them," appealed Ms Thamilini.
