SLA stops Gurunagar ice factory construction

The Sri Lanka Army Thursday ordered the Northern District Fisheries Co-operative Federation (NDFCF) to stop the construction work of the ice factory immediately in the Gurunagar area in Jaffna town.
A letter in this regard was handed over to the management of the Jaffna NDFCF Thursday by an official of the 51-2 Brigade of the Sri Lanka Army, located in Gurunagar area, TamilNet sources in the northern town said. The SLA has told the NDFCF management that they issued the order to ensure the security of the military installation in the area, the sources said. The NDFCF building was handed over to the management of the institution in 2002 following the ceasefire agreement. Thereafter the management commenced the construction of the ice factory at an estimated cost of 2.1 million rupees, the sources said.
