Record crowd at Amman temple water cutting ceremony

More than twenty thousand devotees participated in the water-cutting festival of the historic Trincomalee Pathirakaliamman temple held Tuesday morning at the traditional ’Uyanthapadu Theertha Kadatkarai’ (Back Bay sea) in the east port town sources said.

The Theertha Kadatkarai is located along the Koneswaram road from Clock Tower junction that leads to Fort Frederick. The chief deity Goddess Pathirakali Amman was taken in a colorful procession from the Pathirakali Ambal temple Tuesday early morning around five through Vidiyalayam Road, Vidiyalyam Lane and Main Street to Theertha Kadatkarai. Devotees from many parts of the island participated in the water cutting festival. The Chief Priest of the temple Bramasiri S.Ravichandrakurukkal officiated the ceremony.
