Vanni MP lends moral support to protesting teachers

Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan, Vanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian wearing black band participated in the one month old sit-in-protest by the North East Tamil Medium Volunteer Teachers Monday
morning now being held in front of the provincial ministry education office in Trincomalee, sources said.
Volunteer teachers began their sit-in-protest campaign on March 3 demanding that they should be made permanent as agreed by the governments of the then Peoples Alliance and the present United National Front. On his way to Colombo from Vavuniya to attend parliament sittings Tuesday Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan interrupted his journey midway to sit with the volunteer
teachers from morning till evening, sources said. Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan said he would be meeting the Prime Minister with other TNA parliamentarians regarding the demand of volunteer teachers. He further said that TNA parliamentarians are likely to participate in the sit-in-protest campaign in Trincomalee on April 2 as a show of support to the cause of volunteer teachers. Addressing volunteer teachers ,parliamentarian Mr.Adaikalanathan said, if the
government failed to fulfill the reasonable demand, we must organize a
general shut down in the entire northeast province to bring the civil
administration to standstill.
