A corpse without skull, found at an army sentry point in Eluthumadduval in the Thenmaradchchi area of the Jaffna district, was identified as that of a soldier of the 554 Brigade of the Sri Lanka Army by his fellow soldiers at the inquest held by the Chavakachcheri Magistrate Tuesday, legal sources said.
On receiving information, the Chavakachcheri Magistrate visited the scene and held an inquiry. The preliminary investigation revealed that the 24-year-old deceased soldier, M.G.Samintha Sri, had committed suicide by shooting himself, and left a letter to his brother living in Galle. The letter recovered by the police has been handed over to the courts, legal sources said. The Magistrate further ordered the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer to conduct a postmortem examination and submit the report, sources said.
