PM allocates fifty million rupees for Muttur rehabilitation[TamilNet, Tuesday, 22 April 2003, 10:50 GMT]Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe has instructed the Treasury to allocate fifty million rupees as first installment for the rehabilitation of the thousands of displaced people in Muttur division, south of Trincomalee district. This was revealed at a conference held Monday evening at the Trincomalee district secretariat presided by Minister and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Mr.Rauff Hakim, sources said. The conference was held at the request of Minister Mr.Rauff Hakim to review the situation in Muttur following one weeklong violence, sources said. Representatives of local and international non-governmental organizations participated at the conference. Welcoming the Minister, the Trincomalee Government Agent (GA) Mr.N.H.K.Nelumdeniya said till Monday five persons were killed and about eighteen injured in violence in Muttur. Minister Rauff Hakim presiding over the conference said that the Prime Minister has informed him about his visit to Trincomalee in a day or two to hold discussions with the parties concerned regarding Muttur violence. Minister Rauff Hakim further told that the money allocated by the Prime Minister would be used for the reconstruction of destroyed houses in Muttur division. Trincomalee district Sri Lanka Muslim Congress parliamentarian Mr.M.S.Thowfeek also participated in the conference.
