SLA soldiers desert their posts More than 8000 Sri Lanka Army(SLA) soldiers have deserted their posts after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), according sources of the Defense Ministry of Sri Lanka. Rights case against GoSL, Security forces Valikamam North Rehabilitation organization is considering filing a fundamental rights case against the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and the Security Forces, for blocking displaced residents from resettling in their own lands in Valikamam North, legal sources from Jaffna said. The legal action points out that the former residents have been violated of their fundamental rights for the past 16 years to resettle, despite several protests and talks with the Government of Sri Lanka and the security forces. The rights action further points out that the displaced are languishing in refugee camps from 1990 and that they have received no assistance until now.
