Suspected SARS patient dies in Jaffna

A young woman who was suspected to be suffering from symptoms akin to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) died at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital (JTH) Wednesday morning, medical sources in the northern town said.

A twenty two year old woman of Nunavil in the Jaffna district was admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital Tuesday.

Medical officers suspected that she was suffering from SARS.

However the hospital authorities said they could not confirm whether the woman had contracted SARS.

The Coroner who conducted the postmortem Wednesday ordered the relatives of the deceased to bury the body in a sealed coffin, sources in Jaffna said.
