North to supply relief to flood victims in south

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has enlisted several Tamil social organizations in the northeast to collect dry ration, food items and other assistance that are deemed necessary to be supplied to victims in flood ravaged areas in the south of the country, government sources said.

The first convoy of lorries with relief consignments is due to leave Vavuniya to Colombo Wednesday, government sources said Wednesday.

Several civil associations in the Jaffna district are engaged in collecting food and other materials to be sent to south of the country. Various non-governmental organizations in the northeast are also assisting in the collection of food and other items, the sources said.
