SLN soldier escapes from Karainagar detachment

A Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) soldier Friday morning escaped from the Sri Lanka Navy
detachment at Karainagar in Jaffna district and surrendered to the
residents of the area. Later he was handed over to Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam officials in Karainagar, military sources said
The Karainagar office of the LTTE immediately informed the incident to the
Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Jaffna. SLMM monitors rushed to the site
and took the navy personnel into their custody and handed him back to the
Karainagar navy unit despite repeated pleas made by the escapee that he
should be allowed to go home, sources said. It transpired at the preliminary investigation that the said soldier
had escaped from the Karainagar naval unit following a dispute with his
superior officer, sources said
