Trinco NGOs' consortium to help flood victims

The Consortium of Trincomalee District Non-Governmental Associations Saturday appealed to its member organizations to channel all relief materials collected in the district through it to the victims of recent flood in the south of the country.

The Consortium has asked its member organizations in the Trincomalee district to hand over all relief materials to the Consortium before May 31. Thereafter the aid would be taken in a convoy of lorries to the southern parts of the country to be distributed among the flood victims, Mr.Singaraveloo, Consortium Secretary said.

In the meantime the annual general meeting of the Consortium of the Trincomalee NGOs Associations was held at the Trincomalee Social Service Centre Hall Saturday morning with Mr.T.Thavasilingam in the chair. Messrs Thavasilingam and Mr.Singaraveloo were elected Chairman and Secretary of the Consortium respectively unanimously for the ensuing year, sources said.

Mr.B.Balasubramaniam of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization, Ms Ranji Balasingham of Trincomalee Women Welfare Organization and Mr.Dr.K.Sasitharan were elected vice presidents to handle rehabilitation, general affairs and development respectively. Mr.R.M.J.Thangarajah of Eastern Health Economic Development organization was elected treasurer, the sources said.
