The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), a constituent of the United National
Front (UNF) government,
Sunday declared that it would wholeheartedly support the interim council
proposal put forward by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), CWC said in a
press release.
Presiding over the CWC administrative officers' meeting at Kandy Sunday
morning the CWC leader and the Minister in the UNF government Mr.Arumugam
Thondaman said an interim administration should be set up in the northeast
as a prelude to find a political solution to the ethnic problem. He said his grand father and the founder president of the CWC Mr.Soumiamoorthy
Thondaman also reiterated this when he was a minister in the then
government, the press release said. The time has come to give life to the prophecy of the late leader
Mr.Thondaman by setting up of the interim administration in the northeast.
If an interim administration had been set up earlier as requested by his
late father the country could have avoided destruction of lives and
properties, Mr.Arumugam Thondaman said. The CWC would extend its wholehearted support to the constructive steps the
government is taking to take forward the peace process, said Mr. Thondaman, according to the press release issued by the CWC.
