Jaffna Principals appeal to UNF government to establish IA
[TamilNet, Saturday, 07 June 2003, 17:35 GMT]
The Northern Principals' Association (JPA) Saturday requested the United
National Front (UNF) government to establish an appropriate administrative
structure in the northeast under the leadership of the Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to serve as a foundation for find lasting peace in the
country. "This request should be accepted by the Colombo government and the peace
loving groups without delay," said the Jaffna Principals' Association in a
statement issued Saturday in Jaffna, sources said.
Tamils sighed relief with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by
the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam last
year that they could lead normal life with a sense of security in their own
lands. However, the failure on the part of the government to implement
several aspects agreed in the MoU has made Tamil people to lose confidence
in the success of the peace process, said Mr.S.Shethuraja, President of the
JPA in his statement, sources said. Everyone agrees that an appropriate administrative structure is urgently needed to restore normalcy in the lives of Tamil people. It is the
duty of the GoSL to define an acceptable structure and to hand over such administrative structure in the
hands of those responsible in the province, JPA statement further said. If the justifiable expectations of Tamils regarding the restoration of
their lost rights and humanitarian needs were not implemented effectively
it would once again lead the country to chaos, JPA statement stated
sources said.
