East High Court discharges two more PTA accused

The East High Court in Trincomalee Wednesday discharged two Tamils indicted under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and held in detention when the prosecution withdrew the charges on the advice of the Attorney General, legal sources said.

In one case a woman Ms Anthony Sahayamary alias Jeyathevy of Trincomalee was accused of obtaining arms training from LTTE in Manalaru between 1.9.1991 and 31.12.1991.The case was taken up for inquiry on the tenth date of trial Wednesday.

In the second case Seenithamby Premanathan alias Kivusihan of Thampalakamam was arrested for obtaining arms training from LTTE at Thiriyai, north of Trincomalee. This case was also taken up for inquiry on the seventh date of trial Wednesday

In both cases State Counsel Mr.S.M.Halimdeen made an application to court to withdraw the indictments against the accused as instructed by the Attorney General.

The High Court Judge Mr.Paramarajah allowed the application and accordingly discharged the accused, legal sources said.
