The army truck captured by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) with
six soldiers during the latter part of the last year was returned to the Sri Lanka Army Thursday around noon at no man zone close to Welgam Vihare in the Nilaveli area, about sixteen km north of Trincomalee town, the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission head in Trincomalee, Mr.Abdel Burkan, said.
The Kuchchaveli LTTE military head, Mr. Eehan, handed over the army truck to a representative of the SLA in the presence of the SLMM members, LTTE sources said. The LTTE captured six soldiers who entered the LTTE controlled area near Kumburupiddy with the army truck to remove sand. Later, the SLA soldiers were released by the LTTE. However the army truck was not returned to the
SLA at that time. Due to the intervention of the SLMM head, Major General (retd.) Triggve Teleffsen, the LTTE leadership in the Trincomalee district agreed to return the army truck to the SLA, SLMM sources said.
