Measles vaccination for Vavuniya children

Vavuniya district Deputy Commissioner of Health Services, Dr.Arumugam Ketheeswaran said that under the country-wide 2003 plan of vaccinating against measles Vavuniya district was the first in the Northeast to complete the vaccination program during six weeks in June-July, sources in Vavuniya said. 95% children in Vavuniya has been vaccinated against measles.
Among the 19,136 children between ages ten and fifteen, 17,969 children have been vaccinated against measles, according to the Health Commissioner. The program was carried out in schools for the children attending schools and in welfare centers for those children not attending schools, Dr.Ketheeswaran said. Vavuniya disteic Public Health Inspectors and Public Nurses participated to complete the vaccination program as scheduled, sources said.
