US group completes clearing parts of Sarasalai region of mines

Mine clearing group from United States America (USA) is to cermonially hand over a mine cleared section of Sarasalai in Thenmaradchy district, Jaffna, to Secretary S.Srinivasan Monday 10am in an event to be held at the Central Community Center in Sarasalai, local papers reported.

S.Senthilkumar, Director of Jaffna Secretariat's Mine Clearing Office, said that the US Group which has been clearing mines in Thenmaradchy area the past several months officially completed its assignments on the 30th of June and that the handover event is to mark the successful completion of the Group's task.

However, the Government Agent (GA), Jaffna, recently requested that the Group continue its mine clearing services and Director of Planning of the US Group, Mr. William J Reid visited Jaffna last week to explore the feasibility of the Group's continued engagement, reports said.
