Members of a vigilante group, on guard against anti-social elements in Vadamarachchi in the Jaffna district, rescued an abducted young married woman and released her to her husband during the weekend, and the group is now conducting an inquiry into the incident to find out who were behind the abduction and what their motive was, civil sources said.
When the woman was on her way to her husband' house at Urumpirai from Thambaciddy in Point Pedro on Friday, some unidentified persons in a three-wheeler abducted this 23 –year old married woman. On hearing her cries, residents of the area tipped off the members of the vigilante group, which is responsible for taking action against those indulging in anti social and anti-cultural activities in the area, civil sources said. The members of the vigilante group rescued the woman and handed her to her husband in the presence of her parents at Nelliyady, the sources said.
