LTTE denies involvement in Sammanthurai killings

Denying any involvement in the killing of two Muslim civilians in Sammanthurai
police division in the Ampara district Sunday night, the deputy political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Ampara, Mr.Kuyilan, said, "Elements bent on derailing the peace process could have committed this dastardly act," according to media sources.
Mr.Kuyilan appealed to all to join hands to identify persons who were
behind these killing and urged Tamils and Muslims in the Ampara district
to continue to live in harmony without giving room for anti-peace elements,
media sources said. Meanwhile, hundreds of Tamil agricultural labourers who are engaged in
harvesting Yala paddy crops in Sammanthurai Monday started leaving the
area to their home villages for security as tension prevails following the
killing of Muslims who were shot dead by unidentified gunmen when
they were going to their paddy fields in a motorbike, media sources said.
