JVP anti-peace Foot March from Galle to Colombo

[TamilNet, Sunday, 24 August 2003, 17:52 GMT]
The four-day "Foot March " (Pada Yatra) by the Sinhala nationalist cum Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will commence Monday from Galle, deep south of the country, Monday in protest to the present peace initiative of the United National Front (UNF) government. The protest march is organized to highlight the danger to the territorial integrety of Sri Lanka, and to safeguard the country from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the foreign imperialists, JVP sources said.

The JVP says that under the pretext of the present peace process the UNF government is trying to hand over the northeast to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the south to the foreign imperialists, sources said.

The protest march, which is to commence from Galle Monday, around seven in the morning will arrive Ambalangoda town the same day evening. The march will will resume from Ambalangoda Tuesday morning and arrive at Aluthgama the same day evening. On the third day Wednesday the foot march will start from Aluthgama and will reach Panadura. The final day Foot March would start Thursday morning from Panadura and will reach Colombo Lipton's Square the same day evening. This will be followed by a rally, JVP sources said.

Until the present UNF government is ousted from power our protest marches and demonstrations will continue in various parts of the country, said JVP propaganda secretary and parliamentarian Mr.Wimal Weerawanse.

The next Foot March will be held in Kandy, capital of the central province, Mr.Weerawanse said.
