SLMM head meets LTTE, SLA officials in Trincomalee

The Norwegian head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, Major General (Retd.) Triggve Tellefsen, Monday held discussions with leaders of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in the Trincomalee district, military commander Colonel Pathuman and district political head Mr.Thilak, at Sampur in the LTTE held Muttur east, south of Trincomalee town, SLMM sources said.
The sources said that the SLMM head also met with General Officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army in Trincomalee, Major General Sunil Tennekoon. The discussions focused on several current issues related to the security situation in Trincomalee, including the controversy over the Kurankupanchan LTTE camp, the SLMM sources said. The SLMM head arrived at the China Bay airport by special Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter and went to Sampur via Muttur by a Sri Lanka Navy gunboat. He was accompanied by his Chief Operations Officer, Media spokesperson and the SLMM’s local head in Trincomalee, Mr.Abdel Burkan, the sources said. The SLMM head held discussions with the LTTE leaders at the LTTE political secretariat at Sampur for about an hour. Later, the SLMM members returned to Trincomalee and held discussions with the Trincomalee GOC at the latter’s Plantain Point headquarters, the sources added.
