Tamil youth killed in Sammanthurai

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 03 September 2003, 16:06 GMT]
A Tamil youth in the Sammanthurai area of Ampara district was killed close to a paddy field Wednesday, sources in Sammanthurai said.

The youth has been identified as Mr. Kunchipodiyan, a postal services worker at the Malwathai post office, and it appears he was on his way back home from work when he was killed, the sources said.

The youth’s dead body was found at the same spot where two Muslim farmers were found dead last week, the sources said.

Ethnic tensions between Tamil and Muslim communities ran high in the Ampara district in the past few weeks following killings of both Tamil and Muslim youths by unidentified persons.
