Danish Ambassador meets Thamilchelvan

Ambassador for Denmark in Colombo, Mr. Michael Sternberg, met with the Political Wing Leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Mr. S.P. Tamilchelvan, at the Peace Secretariat Building of the LTTE in Kilinochchi Wednesday, sources in the Vanni said.
In addition to extending the Danish Government's help in developing the Northeast, Ambassador Sternberg discussed with Thamilchelvan matters related to the current peace process and the state of development activities in the Northeast.

On Tuesday, the Ambassador visited Jaffna and met with the University of Jaffna community and Sri Lankan government officials.

In Jaffna, the Danish envoy expressed the need for the University of Jaffna to expand its faculties to include the fields of Law and Journalism, saying that the current disciplines available at the University do not meet the growing needs of the community. He said that his government presented computers to Tamil media Organizations with a view to improving their performance. The Ambassador said that he was very much interested in exploring the feasibility of windmill projects combined with solar energy.

In Kilinochchi Wednesday, he visited a Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) office and met with members of the Danish de-mining unit working along with TRO. He also visited the Kurukulam children’s home, the White Pigeon Artificial limb project, and a field location where de-mining was taking place, sources said. The sources added that the Ambassador would stay overnight in Kilinochchi and later visit fishing villages in Mullaitivu and meet with peasants engaged in fishing and agriculture.
