The North East Provincial Department of Education is to implement a special educational development programme for primary students in the Muttur education zone in the Trincomalee district from next year, said Provincial Director, Mr.S. Mahalingam.

As a preliminary step, Mr. Mahalingam said, he has organized two workshops for principals of schools in the four education divisions of the Muttur zone.

The first one-day workshop will be held on September 27 at Kinniya Central College for principals serving in schools in the Kinniya and Tampalakamam education divisions. The second workshop will be held on September 30 for principals serving in schools in the Muttur and Eachchilampathu education divisions at Muttur Central College, Mr. Mahalingam said in a circular sent to the Muttur Zonal Director of Education, sources said.

Divisional education officers, Deputy Director of Education, Assistant Directors of Education and In Service Advisors for primary education have been requested to attend the workshops, and attention is mandatory, sources said.

The main aim of the workshops is to identify the shortcomings of the primary education in the Muttur education zone schools and prepare a comprehensive report to overcome the shortage of primary teachers and other teaching materials, the sources said.
