Stop calling genocide a war on terrorism

[TamilNet, Friday, 23 January 2009, 02:55 GMT]
India and the so-called international community continue to demonstrate with adamancy and arrogance that they have no interest in stopping the genocide of Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka but they would rather abet it in the name of war on terrorism. The people of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil diaspora all over the world should realize that these elements are not going to listen to pleading, but will respond only when their interests are at stake. It is time that demonstrations are to be directed against them with a clear message that their strategic and economic interests will definitely be at stake by losing popular trust if they continue to play the malevolent game with the lives of Tamils, says the gist of a volume of opinion mails received by TamilNet.

The feature presented here is the second of the series of edited compilation of views received from readers in response to the call of TamilNet last Friday.

Demonstrate against the mischievous misrepresentation of the plight of Tamils

The despicable misery of the paradigm of war on terrorism is over.

The world is laughing at those who chant this evil mantra to wage war at a weak and humble people suffering in a forsaken part of the island of Sri Lanka for decades. But the oligarchs of the culture of greed need to be caught at the neck to be reminded of the damage they are committing to human civilization.

The people of Tamil Nadu and the world Tamil diaspora should demonstrate against such governments abetting Colombo and their representations all over the world, first of all to stop calling the genocide of Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka, as a war on terrorism, and then urging them to immediately engage in addressing the Tamil national question pending for ages in the island.

The British Tamils and the American Tamils have to be the first to demonstrate their guts with their governments, for their governments are the culprits in the forefront.

The Tamil national movement never committed any act of terrorism against these countries.

Why should these countries unnecessarily earn the enmity of an ancient culture that has 70 million members all over the world?

It is sad to see that the Foreign Office of a respectable world power such as Britain comes out with dubious policy statements, denouncing war on terrorism with special mention to the LTTE in a statement in India and justifying Colombo’s ‘war on terrorism’ against the same LTTE in another statement in London.

Who will check the deception of this power which is uncertain of what it is doing internationally for quite a long time now, while the life of hundreds of thousands in Vanni hang in balance.

Whenever any country comes out with anything even slightly sympathetic to the struggle of the Eezham Tamils, it has become a routine for the Colombo government to respond with over reacting sensitivity. Its entire diplomatic corps and media agents have been geared to do so.

Many foreign diplomats, politicians and even academics are thus blackmailed by exploiting their sensitivity to criticism by the Establishment of Colombo. This is something that has been openly admitted by the Norwegian envoys to their media.

But, for a long time the Establishments of certain powers have been telling a blatant lie that the war waged by the Colombo government against Tamils is a war on terrorism.

Even at a stage, when the genocide is explicit, when the infrastructure of Colombo reaching a fascist phase is an open knowledge and when the calls of these powers to observe human rights are not honoured, they still continue shamelessly to justify Colombo's genocidal war as a war on terrorism.

The Tamil diaspora listens patiently to this blasphemy committed on their struggle and thinks passive pleading will have effect, rather than exposing the hypocrisy of these Establishments to their own peoples and make the politicians responsible to eat humble pie.

The British and US Tamils have a responsibility in demanding their governments in this regard.

Tamil Nadu, where these countries have diplomatic missions, institutions of vested interests, investments of business interests and ambitions of strategic interests is another appropriate space for the delivery of the Tamil message.
