3RD LEAD (UPDATE)

Congress and Colombo busy in shielding each other

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 17 August 2011, 11:26 GMT]
A Congress parliamentarian from Tamil Nadu in Rajya Sabha, Dr. E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan has convened a meeting of ruling and opposition party parliamentarians of India in New Delhi on Thursday with the help of Colombo-based Indian writer N Sathiyamoorthy, aiming to diffuse the growing political momentum that challenges the crimes committed, and being committed, by New Delhi and Colombo on Eezham Tamils. Meanwhile, genocidal Colombo’s High Commissioner in New Delhi, Prasad Kariyawasam is engaged in preaching ‘ethics’ to journalists and in canvassing to get their support by sending propaganda material prepared by the SL ministry of defence. The Indo-Lanka public relations machinery is in over drive to limit damages caused by media exposing the crimes of the two establishments in partnership.

Dr Natchiappan, coming from Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu was part of an Indian delegation that met Rajapaksa after a guided tour of the island at the end of the war.

The meeting convened by him as president of Parliamentarian Forum on Human Rights for Global Development at Constitution Club, New Delhi on Thursday evening is titled “An Interaction with Members of Parliament on India-Sri Lanka Fisheries Issues and Relations."

But the aim of the meeting is brainwashing the parliamentarians before Rajya Sabha discusses the issue of Eezham Tamils next week, informed sources said.

One of those invited to the meeting is Mr D. Raja of the Communist Party of India. But he may not attend it as he suspects the meeting a ploy of Colombo, the sources further said.

A former parliamentarian and Communist Party member Mr. M. Appadurai recently met Dr. Natchiappan to discuss with him about the issue of Eezham Tamils. During the discussion, Dr. Natchiappan didn’t see any genocide committed on Eezham Tamils and his criticism was mainly on the LTTE. According to him only the politicians in Tamil Nadu cause problems, said sources citing Mr. Appadurai.

Thursday’s meeting convened by Dr. Natchiappan is also co-organized by the influential Reliance Industries-supported New Delhi think-tank Observer Research Foundation (ORF). The Chennai chapter of ORF is headed by Mr. N. Sathiya Moorthy, who has recently written an article that projects the concern of Tamil Nadu towards Eezham Tamils as a pan-Tamil threat.

“With two resolutions in as many days, and both relating to neighbouring Sri Lanka, the Tamil Nadu Assembly has unwittingly sought to introduce elements that were absent so far in the bilateral relations. More importantly, the two, moved by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as private members resolutions, have triggered a chain reaction, reviving in the process complex pan-Tamil issues nearer home, with consequences flowing from across the world,” Sathiya Moorthy wrote in an “analysis” article posted at the website of the ORF.

Sathiya Moorthy is often seen in Colombo, and is closely associated with the Sri Lankan establishment in Colombo and with the SL High Commission in India. He is almost a regular columnist to the Daily Mirror in Colombo and he concentrates on the ethnic conflict in all his writings with a bias against Eezham Tamils, media circles in Colombo said. He got into the power circles of Colombo when he worked as editorial advisor to the trilingual TV operations of the Maharaja Group in Colombo a few years ago, the sources further say.

People of Tamil Nadu increasingly feel it a personal challenge to every one of them, after seeing how the genocide was committed on Eezham Tamils by a partnership of New Delhi and Colombo, after playing a deceit on them. They are also up in arms now after seeing how New Delhi shields Colombo and bargains its interests in the island by allowing and tacitly supporting the structural genocide of Eezham Tamils in the aftermath of the war.

The righteous concern of the people of Tamil Nadu is twisted and demonised by Congress politicians from Tamil Nadu to make a wrong campaign among the north Indian politicians, just for saving the erring Congress leadership and its genocidal partners in Colombo, commented political observers in Chennai.

In the meantime, Colombo’s High Commissioner in recent days has sent copies of reports prepared by SL ministry of defence and a documentary 'Lies Agreed Upon', prepared to counter the Channel 4 revelations by making some captive Tamils to speak.
