Taking Eezham Tamils for another ride: New Delhi’s preparations

[TamilNet, Monday, 22 August 2011, 10:33 GMT]
While a Congress politician EM Sudarshana Natchiappan convenes a meeting in New Delhi ‘inviting’ nearly 10 Tamil political parties from the island to commit to a hoodwink solution suiting New Delhi’s agenda, Dr. V. Suryanarayan, harping on Sampanthan’s repeated statements that the TNA does not subscribe to a separate state of Tamil Eelam, wrote on Saturday that the ‘minorities’ should now come together against marginalisation. Responding, an Eezham Tamil politician in the island said that with the kind of militarisation having a genocidal Army of exclusive ethnicity and with the kind of grooming it gets from the powers, the ‘minorities’ coming together alone is not going to help in anyway. Rather, the making of Tamil Eelam only could guarantee safety and self-esteem of all, including the up-country Tamils, whether inside or outside of Tamil Eelam.

Writing in the bulletin of South Asia Analysis Group, an outfit in Chennai sponsored by intelligence agencies of New Delhi, Suryanarayan said the following:

“Sampahthan has repeatedly stated that the TNA does not subscribe to a separate state of Tamil Eelam and the party is willing to work for a political solution within a united Sri Lanka.

“From an Indian perspective, the need of the hour is for the TNA leadership to open a dialogue with the political leadership of the Tamil speaking Muslims and the Indian Tamils on issues of common concern.

“Political representation of the minorities in Parliament, including the representation of non-contiguous minorities like the Indian Tamils and the Tamil speaking Muslims, should form the subject matter of a healthy debate.

“Sri Lanka will have to evolve innovative institutional structures so that participatory democracy gets strengthened at all levels. In another essay I shall touch upon this significant dimension of Sri Lankan political system,” Suryanarayan wrote.

The Eezham Tamil politician in the island responded by saying that the very concept of ‘minority’, degrading Eezham Tamils from the status of nationhood, is dangerous.

The question of marginalization of non-Sinhalese in political representation could never be tackled in a ‘united’ Sri Lanka. The claim of Eezham Tamils for their country along with Tamil-speaking Muslims only could resolve the question and would guarantee the safety and self-esteem of the up-country Tamils, the Eezham Tamil politician said citing how the Chinese in Malaysia feel when there is a country for them in Singapore.

While talking ‘innovative’ institutional structures and participatory democracy to a state that has no mood to listen, the genocide and structural genocide of Tamils and Muslims will be over, the politician said pointing to the implementation of the quarter-century-old ‘institutional arrangement’ of the 13th amendment India was harping on and the ilk of Suryanarayan was upholding.

Suryanarayan is well known for being long antagonistic to the independence of Eezham Tamils. The line of thinking adamantly rejecting righteous liberation even in the wake of genocide, and even when they could not stop genocide, has given all encouragement for the genocidal state in the island. Eezham Tamil politicians whether in the island or in the diaspora should not unnecessarily give room to people to make undue advantages, the Eezham Tamil politician further said.
