Win TV discussion sets Tamil perspective straight on US-tabled resolution, video released

[TamilNet, Monday, 12 March 2012, 12:01 GMT]
While manoeuvres by establishments are being staged in the diaspora so as to contain them within the reconciliation paradigm at the current Geneva UNHRC sessions, the discussions opened in a Win TV programme ‘Neethiyin Kural’ on Friday has highlighted several issues which diaspora activists need to consider, political observers in Chennai said. The discussion between Prof. Dheeran, Thiyagu and Pugazhenthi, moderated by anchor CR Baskaran, delves into how and why of the tactical manipulations of the Tamils by the Western powers which under a guise of concern for human rights, are only hoodwinking the Tamils into accepting the legitimacy of the LLRC report and the unitary Sri Lankan state. TamilNet is uploading the entire video of the programme in Tamil for viewers’ benefit.

Though veteran activists in Tamil Nadu and the civil society in Tamil Eelam are firmly adhering to the principal goal of Tamil sovereignty and are correctly insisting that only international investigations and a referendum would provide justice to the genocide affected Eezham Tamils, it is disheartening to see that a few diaspora organizations are missing the woods for the trees in welcoming the US-resolution which is only bailing out the GoSL, a youth activist from Tamil Nadu told TamilNet.

The Eezham Tamils in the diaspora, who have been strongly standing by the fundamental demand for an independent Tamil Eelam, have been since Mullivaikaal asked to successively water down their positions by western establishments. First to talking about genocide alone without sovereignty, then about war crimes alone without genocide, and now, some are being trapped into accepting the farcical LLRC.

In the video, Prof. Dheeran observes how the Norway backed Oslo agreement and the proposition of ‘internal self-determination’ with the aim of scuttling the political aspirations of the Eezham Tamils facilitated the genocidal offensive culminating in Mullivaikaal. Whether the US resolution in Geneva also has the intention of not just bailing out the Sri Lankan state, but also abetting the structural genocide that the LLRC seeks to institutionalize is a question that many activists are raising.
