Ploy of ‘development’ by powers abetting Colombo aggravates ethnic discrimination

[TamilNet, Saturday, 05 May 2018, 22:28 GMT]
SL Minister for Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa has allocated new housing schemes with modern infrastructure facilities for two ‘model villages’ for Sinhala settlers in Trincomalee while ignoring the housing needs of the war-affected and resettled Tamils in Moothoor East division of the same district, Rural Development Society activists in Champoor complain. The mainstream political parties from South are competing in winning the hearts and minds of Sinhala settlers and the foreign powers locked in a ‘development’ race in their greed for geopolitical space in the strategically located island in the Indian Ocean. As a result, all the SL ministries, departments of the SL State and the occupying SL military are deployed in a coordinated and accelerated demographic genocide in the East.

The ITAK hierarchy of the TNA and the Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan, who also hails from Trincomalee, have failed to act against the ethnic discrimination which is also demographic genocide, the RDS representatives from Champoor said.

The two Sinhala villages, which they were referring to, are known as Pohunu-gama and Rangiri-gama. These villages are situated in the Sinhalicised Gomarangadawala division of the Trincomalee district.

Sajith Premadasa is the son of late SL President Ranasinghe Premadasa (UNP)

The unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka has also deployed its occupying Sinhala military to strengthen Sinhala colonisation through so-called ‘infrastructure development’ from school construction to the re-engineering of major irrigation tanks for Sinhala farmers in the bordering North Central Province, the home province of SL President Maithiripala Sirisena.

The same pattern is also witnessed in the areas subjected to Sinhala colonisation in the Trincomalee district.

Mr Sirisena, who is in charge of the Ministry of ‘Mahalweli Development’ has been engaged in the programme of Sinhalicisation for a long time.

In practice, the UNP and the SLFP, which are the mainstream political parties from the South, are competing with each other in winning the hearts and minds of Sinhala colonists.

Foreign Establishments, from China to the Western establishments are also providing funding to the projects of structural genocide associated with the political leaders of the SLFP and the UNP.

The same foreign establishments were also abetting the SL State in its genocidal onslaught on Eezham Tamils. The same trend was also influencing the post-2009 UN human rights discourse in Geneva for the benefits of the big powers, especially the US bandwagonism.

While the octogenarian Tamil leader remains aloof to the realities on the ground in the East, Tamil-speaking Muslim politicians, who join the hands with the ruling SLFP and the UNP in the South within the prevailing paradigm, to win a few housing schemes for them as well in the East. Sajith Premadasa declared open two such housing schemes allocated for Muslims in Thoappoor in Moothoor on Saturday.

The Colombo Establishment has conveniently ignored the war-affected Tamil villages in Pa'l'lik-kudyiyiruppu, Paaddaa'li-puram, Veera-maanakar, Upooral and Cheenan-ve'li in the same administrative division and situated close to Thoappoor, the RDS leaders from Champoor complained. Out of 42 GS divisions in the division of Moothoor, there are 22 GS divisions with Tamils and 20 GS divisions with Tamil-speaking Muslims.

The Moothoor division is subjected to Sinhala militarisation through the occupation of Tamil GS divisions in the Moothoor East.
