Tamil politicians blame SL Military for enticing Sinhala students with triumphalist chauvinism

[TamilNet, Thursday, 21 July 2016, 00:21 GMT]
It was a section of Sinhala students who went against the decision taken by the Jaffna University administration to allow Kandyan dance as a stage-event inside the venue hall and traditional Tamil music in the welcome procession outside the hall on Saturday. It was the SL military intelligence that enticed the Sinhala students to act in contrary to the decision, said Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the leader of Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF). The SL Police on Wednesday arrested a Jaffna University student leader merely on a complaint made to them. The SL police has acted without conducting an initial investigation, he said. In the meantime, EPRLF Leader Suresh Premachandran said there was no point in punishing Sinhala or Tamil students. Instead, the investigations should focus on how these students were manipulated by the external forces to indulge in violence, the former MP said.

Sinhala-Tamil student clash in Jaffna exposes dangerous proportions of military occupation

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 19 July 2016, 23:15 GMT]
Ethnic tension has been escalating over a period of time at the University of Jaffna recently and it culminated into the violent clash on Saturday, says Srinadaraj Kalaraj, the deputy secretary of non-academic staff at the University. He was blaming the military intelligence having allegiance towards different sections of politicians in the South as the main culprit for creating the violent tendency. Instead of investigating individual students, a proper investigation should focus on finding out the real reasons behind this tendency, he said. In the meantime, Human Rights Activist Rev Fr M Sakthivel told TamilNet that the SL military has not only occupied the lands of Tamils, but also the Universities in the North and East. They were also citing the trend of ethnic motivated violence in the Eastern University and at Badulla in the recent past.

The public in Jaffna will raise against this move, he said.

Encouraged by US appeasement, SL military strengthens genocidal grip on North

[TamilNet, Friday, 15 July 2016, 23:51 GMT]
The occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka has put up new fences to consolidate the military-seized lands of Eezham Tamils in Valikaamam North in Jaffna within the last three days while the visiting US State Secretary for South Asia Ms Nisha Biswal was trading off international justice and human rights with ‘security’ and maritime military-to-military cooperation with the unitary ‘Sri Lanka’ during her visit to Colombo this week. The SL military consolidation in the lands seized from Eezham Tamils in Valikaamam North reminds Tamils how Israel fenced off Palestinian territories in the Middle East, commented Tamil rights activists in North. The latest move, accompanied with tricky deceptions, have dashed all hopes for proper resettlement in the villages of uprooted Eezham Tamils, said Subramaniyam Nagendraseelan, the secretary of Valikaamam North Rehabilitation Society.

Colombo demonstrates military diktats over resettlement in Jaffna after Geneva ‘update’

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 12 July 2016, 13:10 GMT]
The commander of the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka in Jaffna has re-iterated the military diktat on Monday by going on record that there was no reduction in the camps or number of military troops in Jaffna. Claiming that there would be no such consideration of reducing the troops in 10 years in the future, Major General Mahesh Senanayake was also demonstrating that any resettlement of uprooted Eezham Tamils in the former ‘High Security Zone’ in Valikaamam North could only take place at the mercy of the Sinhala military. A few uprooted Tamil women and the Additional Government Agent of Jaffna were asked to be present in the ‘inauguration’ ceremony of the military-conceived, SL government-funded housing scheme for 100 families at a limestone quarry land near Maavidda-puram. The quarry lands belong to KKS Cement factory.

Amaithipuram exposes disparity in ‘development’ motives of Colombo, external powers

[TamilNet, Friday, 08 July 2016, 15:37 GMT]
The entire village of Amaithi-puram (peace-town), created in 2012 as a settlement for war-affected, women-headed and uprooted families from Periya-pa’ndi-virichchaan in Mannaar district during the regime of Rajapaksa, is still languishing without proper livelihood support. 250 Eezham Tamils belonging to 47 families are struggling without access to potable water and they lack much-needed road infrastructure. In contrast, Sinhala colonization settlements being created in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils by the genocidal unitary State in South are fully utilized with sustainable and modern solutions in all areas, be it housing, livelihood, education arrangements and state-of-the art road infrastructure. But, in Amaithi-puram, like in several other villages of ‘resettled’ Tamils, even the houses built under the Indian housing assistance have become rotten to the core within 5 years.

Former SL President Mahinda Rajpakasa named the 2009 genocidal onslaught as ‘Humanitarian Operation’. After the end of war, Colombo brought genocidal military rule to carry out the structural genocide. As far as the Eezham Tamils are concerned, the current regime has brought ‘Genocidal Governance’ through the so-called label of ‘Good Governance’, commented a Tamil doctor at Batticaloa Teaching hospital.
