Genocidal Sri Lanka wants to militarise Dutch Fort in Jaffna

The occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka wants to station its occupying forces into the Jaffna Fort, which has been renovated into a heritage site for tourism with the official assistance from the government of The Netherlands. SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and Sinhala colonial Governor to North Reginald Cooray have been promoting the idea during the recent visit by the former to Jaffna on 28 May. The latest move is an acid test for the integrity of the Government of The Netherlands, which has been criticised by the Eezham Tamils as failing to recognise the territorial and heritage ownership of Eezham Tamils but facilitating the agenda of the occupying SL State with its Colombo-centered approach of the entire renovation project.

SL-TID attempts to harass NPC Minister with questioning in ‘4th Floor’

Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Education Minister K. Sarweswaran on Tuesday told TamilNet that a group of officers from the SL Terrorist Investigative Division (TID) came to see him today at his NPC ministerial office with a handwritten note, which was supposed to be a summons for questioning him at the 4th Floor of the TID in Colombo. The NPC Minister declined to accept their call based on two grounds, he said.

Occupying Colombo has increased the so-called 'Terrorist' investigation threats against ex-LTTE members in recent days, especially after the people in North-East successfully marked Mu'l'livaaykkaal Tamil Genocide Day on 18 May. One of the ex-LTTE members instructed to appear for clarifications is ITAK executive committee member K. Jeyakumar from Ki'linochchi, who is a close confidante of Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Sivagnanam Sritharan. He has been instructed to present himself at the TID office in Colombo on Monday, sources close to the TNA parliamentarian said.

Uprooted Tamils confront SL Minister on 452th day of protest

Uprooted people of Keappaa-pulavu in Mullaiththeevu district laid siege to the Divisional Secretariat office of Karai-thu'raip-pattu on Saturday when SL Minister of Resettlement D. M. Swaminathan visited Mullaiththeevu for a meeting on livelihood assistance projects. The protesters confronted the SL Minister when he emerged out of the meeting. Mr Swaminathan managed to force himself through the protesters with the help of his ministerial security and the SL police and left the office after a brief stand-off.

Shallow backwaters gets filled with sand for illegal encroachments

Powerful intermediaries with political and military backing are scheming creative ways of extending lands for illegal encroachment by filling portions of Periya-ka'lappu, the second largest backwaters in the island, with sand. The chairman of Thirukkoayil Hindu Federation N. Arulkanth has condemned the illegal extension of lands as destructive to the natural ecology of the backwaters. The sands brought to level up the backwater lands could be seen in front of the 241 Brigade camp of the SL military, located on Akkaraippattu - Poththuvil Road at Aalaiyadi-vempu.

Uprooted Tamils demand demarcation of lands seized by SL military in Vaakarai

The commander of the 233 Brigade of the occupying military at Vaakarai in Batticaloa was refusing even to recognise the demand of the uprooted Tamils that the SL military should hand back the seized lands back to them. At a meeting held on last Thursday (17 May), the SL commander was claiming that the SL military was mainly stationed in public lands. He was telling them that the SL military was lawfully staying in the lands belonging to five private people. The people have been complaining that the SL military was occupying the lands belonging to 47 families and that the SL military had obtained signatures in white papers during the regime of Rajapaksa through intimidation and threat.

SL State reinforces stringent police registration of residents in Colombo

The SL Police in Colombo has started to demand registration of residents in the city as it was practising during the times of war. Forms are being distributed to register the details of the chief occupant of each household under the different divisional secretariats with Tamil populations. All other occupants in the houses are instructed to record their permanent addresses and details such as their relationship to the chief occupant. Similarly, there are separate entries for domestic assistants, the sources in Colombo said. Citing the SL Police Ordinance - Section 76, police officials are instructing the chief occupants of the households to report any change with updating the details at the nearest police station.

Endangered elephant found dead near SL military base in Mullaith-theevu

A 35-year old elephant belonging to an endangered species was found dead at Thearaavil in Mullaiththeevu district at the premises of a military camp of the occupying SL military on Monday morning. The elephant was one of the three surviving elephants belonging to a rare species, according to veterinary physician Sri Giritharan. The animal lost its life after being exposed to electrocution from an illicit electric connection created by the SL military for their Vesak lighting at the camp of the 68th Division, people at Thearaavil village told TamilNet. The medical sources also confirmed that the death was due to electrocution.

SL Forest Dept, SL Police continue to harass Tamil dairy farmers in Batticaloa

The so-called Forest Conservation Department officials of the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka and Sinhala speaking officers of the SL Police are continuously harassing the Tamil dairy farmers and their cattle herders in Vavu'natheevu division of Batticaloa district, the residents of Naavat-kaadu village told TamilNet on Sunday. The guards belonging to the SL Forest Department and the Sinhala-speaking policemen do not belong to their administrative division or the district of Batticaloa, they said.

SL Police harasses Eezham Tamil refugees returning home from Tamil Nadu with lawsuits

Eezham Tamils who fled the island in their young age during the times of war are now returning home with their children who are born in Tamil Nadu. Unable to wait for the lengthy and costly process of securing passports, they are taking too much of risks and face harassments from the occupying SL Navy and SL Police. However, they continue to hire boats to reach their homeland unable to tolerate the humiliating conditions prevailing in the camps such as Ma'ndapam refugee camp in Tamil Nadu. Many of them have heartbreaking stories to narrate. Due to poverty, they are unable to bear the costs associated with an official return. The UNHCR, which is the UN refugee agency tasked with a formal role to take care of their resettlement, is ineffective, they say.

SL Attorney General continues to protect genocidaire commander

A Deputy Solicitor General representing the SL Attorney Department was urging the High Court in Jaffna on Wednesday to suspend the investigation on the writ of habeas corpus, which was seeking a high-ranking commander of the occupying SL Army to produce Tamil youth who were detained 22 years ago in Jaffna during the regime of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Former SL Commander and present minister, Sarath Fonseka, has been protecting Major General Duminda Keppettiwalana, who commanded the Sinhala soldiers of the military camp at Naavatkuzhi in 1996.

Colombo resorts to TID-threats against mothers of enforced disappeared

The Terrorist Investigation Division of the police of the occupying Colombo has re-introduced interrogation threats against the mothers of enforced disappeared Tamils in the recent days, informed rights activists in Vavuniyaa told TamilNet on Tuesday. A mother from Vavuniyaa, who has been at the forefront in mobilising protests, which also criticised the so-called ‘Office for Missing Persons’ (OMP) as an eyewash, was recently summoned to the so-called 4th floor. The mother has been reluctant to talk to media about the threat, the source further said.

Ira'nai-theevu residents have all rights to resettle in their islet: NPC CM

The Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council on Monday visited the twin-islet of Ira'nai-theevu giving recognition to the courageous move of the uprooted people, who had reached their twin-islet last month after waging a continuous protest for almost one year. The people, staying at the church and the school, were encouraged by the visit of Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, who proclaimed that no one could deny the people their right to resettle in their native islet. The SL Navy seems to be having its base in an area of 3 acres, and it should not restrict the people to access the residential lands. The coastal stretch which is essential for their livelihood should also be free from naval restrictions, the members of NPC delegation who accompanied Justice Wigneswaran told TamilNet.

Mining firm facing resistance in Thirukkoayil shifts exploitation area with fresh tactics

Damsila Exports Pvt Ltd., a big company exporting phlogopite mica and other minerals from the island, has shifted its plan of excavating Ilmenite resources in Thirukkoayil North of Ampaa'rai district after the people mobilised against the move in December 2017. The company is now trying to deceive the people along the southern sector of the same division, Tamil activists in Thirukkoayil said. Damsila Exports is the premier mica mining and export company headquartered in Colombo. It is exporting phlogopite mica from the island under semi-processed and powder form to Japan, China, Germany and India. At present, about 65% of phlogopite mica product is sent to Japan according to the website of the company.

Colombo released lands with one hand to take away more with the other

But, on the other hand, it is seizing more lands citing a war-time Gazette notification from 07 August 1987, complained A. Gunabalasingham, the president of Valikaamam North Rehabilitation Society. Gunabalasingham's reaction comes on Saturday as the Divisional Secretary of Valikaamam North, S. Sivasri, issued a fresh notice to report those whose lands (in the former High-Security Zone) were coming under the Gazette Notification 465/14, to his office at Thellippazhai.

No jobs, no compensation for lands seized by CEB in Champoor

The Ceylon Electricity Board has failed to compensate for agricultural and residential lands it had seized from Eezham Tamils in Champoor of Moothoor East in the district of Trincomalee. The company owned by the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka has also discriminated Tamils in providing jobs during the construction phase despite its earlier promise to give preference to the people of the area in employment during the construction of the plant and after. Nothing seems to materialise, but the construction work of the plant is almost 40% complete, said Rural Development Society representatives in Champoor.

Occupying SL military dreams about assimilating Tamils: civil society activist in Jaffna

Tamil activists in Jaffna have rebuked the SL Jaffna commander blaming him for politicising the curiosity of Tamil visitors to a circus-like event with that of their cultural and political belongingness. The SL military commander in Jaffna could only assimilate Tamils from their national struggle in his dreams, commented 39-year old grassroots activist Parthipan Varatharajan on Monday.

TID harasses disability activists in Batticaloa with increased surveillance

The much-feared ‘Terrorist Investigation Division’ officers attached to various police stations in the district of Batticaloa have increased their surveillance on the activists of Disabled Peoples’ Organisations (DPOs) in ten of the fourteen administrative divisions in the district in recent days. The majority of 8,600 beneficiaries organised through the DPOs are disabled ex-LTTE members, according to the civil sources at Batticaloa District Secretariat. Already, one-third of disabled LTTE members are reluctant to be associated with the DPO. For example, there are 530 disabled persons in Koa'ra'laip-pattu South (Kiraan) division. But, only 300 of them have registered themselves with the DPO in the division, the sources further said.

SL Army's 574 Brigade faces stiff resistance from Tamil landowners in Vanni

Protesters complained that the SLA was keeping their lands seized over a long time disregarding their objections. They vowed to step up their protests.

NPC Chief Minister urged to witness Ira'nai-theevu peoples’ plight in-person

The uprooted people from Ira'nai-theevu, who courageously landed on their native twin-islet on 23rd April after almost one year of continuous protest, said they were anticipating a much-awaited visit by Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran to witness their plight, especially at this juncture. They further complained that the SL authorities and Tamil politicians have failed to secure their basic needs so far. Around 200 people are staying there, and the families have put up temporary huts along the coast and started to cook food in their shelters during the daytime, and they flock to the school and the church for sleep during the nights, said Mr Michael, a community leader of the uprooted people.

SL President's secretary threatens Jaffna University against May 18 Remembrance statue

Kalupage Austin Fernando, the secretary to SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, has threatened the Jaffna University administration and the student community not to embarrass the SL President by proceeding with their plan of launching a memorial statue within the premises of the University of Jaffna in remembrance of Eezham Tamils who perished in the genocidal war in 2009. A highly placed source at the administration of the University of Jaffna told TamilNet that Mr Fernando as threatening the university community in a teleconference meeting at the presence of Vice-Chancellor Professor R. Vigneswaran. Austin Fernando, who maintains a close rapport with the Sinhala Buddhist Establishment and Dayaka of several Buddhist temples, is also well connected to foreign Powers influencing the affairs of the genocidal State in Colombo.
