Colombo accelerates delinking of Tamil-speaking demographic contiguity in North-East

[TamilNet, Saturday, 30 June 2018, 22:08 GMT]
SL Governor to East Rohitha Bogollagama, conspiring with the Sinhala-Buddhist establishment and the administrative officials of the unitary state, has instructed the Divisional Secretary of Kuchchave'li to survey 400 acres of lands at Arisimalai, which is located 50 km north of Trincomalee city. The Sinhala colonial governor was arguing in favour of the extremist Sinhala Buddhist monks stating that the lands belong to the Buddhist vihara. The move, which has long been objected by the Tamil-speaking Muslims, is surfacing again at the absence of an elected Provincial Council in the East. Tamil-speaking activists in Pulmoaddai say that the Sinhala Buddhist establishment is trying to survey at least 1,300 acres of lands from Arisimalai to Thiriyaay in the division of Kuchchave'li.

Sinhala colonisation chokes off territorial contiguity of Tamil homeland at Thennai-maravadi

[TamilNet, Friday, 29 June 2018, 23:05 GMT]
The occupying Sinhala colonists have stepped the land grab of Pa'nikkar-vayal in Thennai-maravadi, an ancient Tamil village situated in the north of Kuchcha-ve'li division of Trincomalee district. The encroachment targets the strategic border between the Northern and Eastern provinces choking off the territorial contiguity of the Tamil homeland. The move is also seen as an attempt to annex Thennai-maravadi with the Sinhala division of Padavi Sri Pura in the west to create a sea-access corridor to that division. Besides, the move also threatens the neighbouring Tamil-speaking Muslim village of Pulmoaddai, Tamil and Muslim grassroots activists in Kuchchave'li told TamilNet this week.

Occupying Colombo steps up sting operations to justify continuation of draconian PTA

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 27 June 2018, 22:31 GMT]
The so-called Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) of occupying Colombo has detained six Tamil men in the Ki'linochchi district during the last four days. Most of the arrested are believed to be ex-LTTE members. The recent arrests by the SL TID come following an incident on 22 June at former LTTE stronghold of Puthukkudiyiruppu (PTK) in Mullaiththeevu district. The entire episode seems to be a sting operation initiated by the SL military intelligence to project a false impression that there were ex-LTTE members, still interested in reviving an armed struggle, informed sources in Ki'linochchi told TamilNet on Wednesday. The operation seems to combine counter-insurgency experiments along with an intention to justify the continuation of the draconian and abusive ‘Prevention of Terrorism Act’ (PTA), the sources further said.

SL authorities dilly-dally over covering costs of excavating mass grave in Mannaar

[TamilNet, Monday, 25 June 2018, 07:27 GMT]
The excavation of the mass grave, discovered last month at the premises of the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) in Mannaar, face the danger of cancellation or postponement as the SL authorities have started to dilly-dally over the coverage of the expenses associated with the process, legal sources in Mannaar said. In the meantime, the social activists and the relatives of the people subjected to enforced disappearance in Mannaar believe that the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka, which was stationed at the locality during the times of war, had dumped the abducted Tamils at the site. The representatives of the enforced families believe that the victims were killed sometime between 1982 and 1992.

[TamilNet, Sunday, 24 June 2018, 22:32 GMT]
A Sinhala trader from Kantha'laay in Trincomalee district, Ms Ramani Herath, is operating a sand mining business exploiting Verukal river basin at Aaladi in Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) division, north of Batticaloa. At least 24 truckloads of sands are being transported to Colombo on a daily basis, deploying the vehicles of a Tamil businessman from Chengkaladi, local government sources in Vaakarai told TamilNet. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam were protecting Vaakarai from structural genocide and exploitation during the times of peace and war until 2007 when the entire area faced an all-out genocidal war by the SL State.

[TamilNet, Saturday, 23 June 2018, 23:46 GMT]
The head of Mullaiththeevu district organisation of the families of enforced disappeared, Ms Easwary Mariyathas, told TamilNet on Saturday that the recent upsurge of ‘treasure hunting’ operations by the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka, was an indicator that the SL military was still detaining ex-LTTE members in secret detentions. [TamilNet, Thursday, 21 June 2018, 16:24 GMT]
Eezham Tamil fishers in Vadamaraadchi East, Jaffna, took to the seas Wednesday night encircling and detaining eight sea cucumber poachers from the South. The mobilised action response from the native Tamil fishers came as the intruding divers from the South had sneaked into the seas off Kaddaik-kaadu in Vadamaraadchi East with lighting and diving equipment in three boats. The native fishers, who spotted the massive lighting, wanted to hand over the detained poachers with evidence to the fisheries authorities. But, the SL police of occupying Colombo intervened and freed the intruding southern poachers. It also turned against the Tamil fishers. The discriminatory conduct spontaneously triggered off strong reactions from the people, who demanded the SL Police to revert its position.

Mullaiththeevu is one of the heavily militarised districts of the Northern Province. Two months have elapsed since she attended a meeting convened in Colombo at the SL Presidential Secretariat on 11th April, Ms Vijayaluckshmi told journalists in Jaffna on Tuesday, a day after the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, who was visiting Ki'linochchi handed over a document to the Government Agent of Mullaiththeevu of releasing just 52 acres of lands in the district.

Tamil families caught in dilemma of transferring lands in Seruvila, Trincomalee

[TamilNet, Sunday, 10 June 2018, 19:14 GMT]
The rulers of genocidal Sri Lanka, who launched a Sinhala colonisation scheme and created the division of Seruvila in the district of Trincomalee, also gave some lands to Tamil families in the past to avoid the criticism of Sinhala Only policy in settlement schemes. The division, sandwiched between Moothoor and Eachchilam-pattai divisions, was carved out of the traditional Tamil homeland. It is a dominant Sinhala division today. However, some settlements continue to be Tamil areas along the southern border of Moothoor division. The older generation of Eelam Tamil landowners who want to transfer their lands to their children are facing the dilemma of spending more money to retain their lands or leaving the fate of their properties at the hands of the Sinhala land officials in Seruvila, Tamil civil officials in Moothoor said.

The monk, claiming the establishment as Gurukanda has been collecting the belongings of uprooted Tamils and claiming these as heritage artefacts from an ancient Sinhala Buddhist settlement of his imagination. In fact, there was a Buddhist vihara in the past, and it didn't belong to Sinhala Theravada Buddhism, the officials said. The Sinhalicisation of the area aims at destroying the territorial contiguity of the North and the East, which is the traditional homeland of Eezham Tamils.
