Colombo’s Fishing Ministry accelerates structural genocide with EU ‘certificate’

The European Union, influenced by Washington and London to impose a one-sided ban on the LTTE directed the Norwegian-brokered peace process into a genocidal end in 2009. The EU is now backing Colombo's ministries that engage in full-fledged structural genocide against Eezham Tamils, complain Tamil fishermen. The EU removed its import restrictions on Colombo’s fish exports citing Colombo’s Ministry of Fisheries ‘improving’ its legal framework, sanctions on illegal fishing etc. In the meantime, the same SL ministry has increased its activities against the Tamil fishing industry in the occupied North-East. A number of public servants in the sector serving the people since the times during the war are now being demoted or transferred. Local Tamil fishermen are being harassed with ‘lawsuits’ while intruding Sinhala fishing companies and fishermen have occupied the coastal stretch of Vanni.

Sirisena's Mahaweli Ministry spearheads massive-scale Sinhala colonisation in Batticaloa

Maithiripala Sirisena acts like D.S. Senanayake in colonizing Tamil lands in East

Maithiripala Sirisena’s Forest Department has seized 600 hectares of residential lands in the only remaining Tamil division Thirukkoayil in Ampaa’rai district, Tamil civil officials from the Divisional Secretariat told TamilNet. Comparing the occupation scheme and the current structural genocide in Ampaa’rai to the 1957 so-called Gal Oya Colonisation Scheme, the Tamil officials said Colombo’s Forest Department officials have planted border stones surrounding residential lands of uprooted Eezham Tamils from Chaakamam, Thangka-vea’laayutha-puram and Kagnchi-kuddichchaa’ru GS divisions after the 2007-2009 genocidal onslaught. Although 700 Tamil families were fighting to resettle in their lands, their pleas went unheeded, the civil officials said. The occupying military and the Colombo-controlled administration have been blocking the people from resetting in their own lands after the war.

Ban in Jaffna on his tenure’s last-ditch deception

The outgoing UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who was visiting Jaffna on Friday, was avoiding even watching the protesting victims, who had gathered in large numbers outside the District Secretariat. Mr Ban took a different route to meet Reginald Cooray, the controversial colonial governor of genocidal Sri Lanka, whose office is also situated close to the District Secretariat. After meeting the SL Governor, Mr Ban proceeded to Jaffna Public Library, again taking a back-route without showing an iota of interest in consoling the victims who had gathered there to express their despair on the genocidal State of Sri Lanka. Sweeping the issue of ethnic assaults under carpet is not reconciliation: Peradeniya Tamil students

In an attempt to conceal the recent racial assault by a section of Sinhalese students on Tamil-speaking students at Peradeniya, the University Administration has said it has taken disciplinary action against the students who were involved in a clash on 22 August. Accordingly, 10 students were suspended for two weeks from attending their studies, the Administration has said. Responding, the Tamil-speaking students who were subjected to ethnic violence by the Sinhala students told TamilNet on Thursday that they didn't interpret the so-called disciplinary action as a proper response to ensure their future security. In the meantime, Reginald Cooray, Colombo's colonial governor to North has been once again exposed, this time by the Sinhalese students themselves, as a force escalating the conflict while the University Administration in Jaffna was trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution.

49 Tamil students boycott studies, demand security from racial assaults in Peradeniya

Protesting the assault on Tamil-speaking students in ‘surrender position’ by Sinhalese students at Peradeniya University on Monday this week, 49 Tamil-speaking students attending the first year courses at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) have left the University premises on Wednesday and informed the administration that they will not be prepared to return until there is a proper guarantee extended to them by the SL State and the University administration. The University Administration was trying to convince that they would provide guarantees for the security of Tamil and Muslim students within the premises. However, Tamil-speaking students who have come from other provinces have raised questions on their freedom of movement and security in Peradeniya and Kandy.

The wife of a Muslim political prisoner, who has been detained under the ‘Prevention of Terrorism Act’ of genocidal Sri Lanka since 2009, has urged global Tamils to financially assist her to cover the legal expenses in her continued fight to release her husband, Mr Abdul Hameed Umar Hattaaph, who has been alleged of involvement in the assassination of a former notorious commander of the genocidal military, Major General (retd) Janaka Perera in 2008 “No lawyer was prepared to take up the case on behalf of my husband when my Father-in-Law was searching for a lawyer before he passed away. Now, my husband is detained with 48 counts against him while all others have been released 6 years ago. Only one Sinhala lawyer was prepared to take up his case following the assistance provided by a legal organisation. But, now that assistance too has stopped,” the mother of three told TamilNet.

Tamil graduates in East sidelined in education sector employments for 2016

Dissanayake has issued a notice in Sinhala and Tamil languages, inviting graduates from the three districts of Ampaa’rai, Batticaloa and Trincomalee to attend for ‘Open Competitive Examination’ to fill vacancies of Provincial Schools in the Eastern Province. Except Tamil, History and certain Information Communication Technology related vacancies are in the medium of Sinhala language, complain Tamil teachers from Batticaloa. While side-lining Tamil-medium positions for Arts, Religion, Agriculture in all the three districts getting only four of thirteen subjects, Trincomalee district is allocated with all 13 subjects.

Tamil Prisoners of War call for renewed struggle to free them from SL prisons

Sinhala ethnocracy emboldens with confidence that IC would not confront Colombo: Gajendrakumar

The SL Attorney General's Department is contemplating to transfer the cases of Tamil political prisoners to Colombo from Vavuniyaa. At the same time, the SL courts have acquitted Sinhala soldiers indicted in a 1996-massacre of Tamils. Recent findings have also revealed that the SL Police was behind the torture and the eventual murder of Tamil youth. All these reports bring Tamils back to the fundamental question whether the ‘Sri Lankan’ judicial system could ever be trusted in delivering justice, said Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam. All these have taken place, as there is a sense that the International Community – for geopolitical reasons – would rather have this government in power than the previous government, which had a different dispensation internationally, he said adding that the SL government is “so sure that the International Community would not do anything to question its actions.”

Sinhala Police wants SL Judiciary to investigate Tamil students first

While Sinhalese students are demanding a sub-station of SL Police to be established inside the premises of the University of Jaffna, the police of genocidal Sri Lanka have filed cases against 5 Tamil students. The Tamil students, including the Student Union leader who was assaulted by the Sinhalese students, have to present themselves at Jaffna Court on 25 August, informed sources at the University of Jaffna told TamilNet on Sunday. In the meantime, 4 Sinhalese students have to present themselves on 10 September, the sources further said.

2009 genocide justice not going to come from UNP of 1983 pogrom: Shivajilingam

The current SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe was a cabinet minister in 1983 in the UNP regime. 33 years have elapsed. The UNP has totally failed to deliver accountability for the crimes to which it was responsible. How could one expect any justice or solution to come from the UNP for the genocidal crimes committed against Eezham Tamils in 2009, asked M.K. Shivajilingam, a veteran political leader of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) marking 33rd anniversary of Black July. The Black July memorial events were held in Jaffna and Trincomalee in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils on Monday. Ethnic discrimination in student enrollment exposes reconciliation farce: Tamil academic

Reconciliation is about change of attitude in the minds of people. The authorities should have set precedence for such transformation through egalitarian practices. But, what has taken place on the ground was in sharp contradiction, especially in the practice of student selection to the universities in the island, said Senior Lecturer Dr J. Kennedy from the Faculty of Arts & Culture at the Eastern University in an interview to TamilNet on Saturday. Stating that proper investigations should reveal the patterns, the academic from the Department of Languages at the main Vanthaa'ru-moolai campus of the Eastern University said he personally believed external sources were influencing certain sections of Sinhala students to behave in a supremacist manner. Colombo's Ministry of Higher Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) should prove their bona fides, he said.

Tamil politicians blame SL Military for enticing Sinhala students with triumphalist chauvinism

It was a section of Sinhala students who went against the decision taken by the Jaffna University administration to allow Kandyan dance as a stage-event inside the venue hall and traditional Tamil music in the welcome procession outside the hall on Saturday. It was the SL military intelligence that enticed the Sinhala students to act in contrary to the decision, said Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the leader of Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF). The SL Police on Wednesday arrested a Jaffna University student leader merely on a complaint made to them. The SL police has acted without conducting an initial investigation, he said. In the meantime, EPRLF Leader Suresh Premachandran said there was no point in punishing Sinhala or Tamil students. Instead, the investigations should focus on how these students were manipulated by the external forces to indulge in violence, the former MP said.

Eastern University instructs assaulted Tamil student to attend investigations in Colombo

The Welfare branch of the Eastern University has instructed a Tamil student from Batticaloa, L. Sumeskanth, who was brutally assaulted by Sinhalese students on 24 May 2016 to appear for disciplinary investigations in Colombo to be held next week, informed student union sources at the main campus of the Eastern University in Vanthaa'rum-moolai in Batticaloa told TamilNet on Sunday. Sumeskanth was given very short notice to prepare his witnesses to attend for Colombo-based investigations and he has registered his objection to the Welfare branch, student leaders said questioning the motive behind conducting investigations in Colombo. The Sinhala students had attacked Mr Sumeskanth for posting and sharing a photo on Facebook from Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day.

SL military-backed Sinhala students clash with Tamil students in Jaffna University

The episode quickly escalated into a clash between Tamil and Sinhala students for more than one hour. Tamil students from other faculties mobilised to defend their fellow students at the Science Faculty and Sinhala military intelligence personnel in civil clothes entered the premises brutally attacking Tamil students. More than 10 students were rushed to hospital with injuries since the clash started at 2:00 p.m.

Colombo demonstrates military diktats over resettlement in Jaffna after Geneva ‘update’

A few uprooted Tamil women and the Additional Government Agent of Jaffna were asked to be present in the ‘inauguration’ ceremony of the military-conceived, SL government-funded housing scheme for 100 families at a limestone quarry land near Maavidda-puram. Sinhala goons, monk erect Buddha statue by force at coastal Tamil village in East

Tension prevailed at Chaampal-theevu junction, situated 7 km north of Trincomalee city, as Sinhala goons assaulted Eezham Tamil travellers on the coastal road after putting up a Buddha statue where a Hindu Pillayar statue was situated for decades. SL Police was giving protection to the goons who were led by a Buddhist monk. The violent episode took place Monday morning after the villagers had removed a Buddha statue planted by someone a few days ago at the locality after removing Pillayar statue, news sources in Trincomalee said. The villagers had also removed a Bodhi tree that had been planted by the occupying Sinhala navy at the locality. On Monday, SL police was deploying Sinhala goons to ‘demonstrate’ to Eezham Tamils how it was implementing the ‘foremost place to Buddhism’ paragraph of the unitary constitution of genocidal Sri Lanka, commented Tamil activists in Trincomalee.
