Students were forced to abstain from attending the classes following the harassments caused by the SL military deployment. The neighbours, who were alerted by the shouting of the woman around 1:00 a.m. rushed to the spot and captured the Sinhala-speaking man after chasing him for a while. The villages severely assaulted the culprit before handing him over to the SL Police with the demand of immediate remand. Mr Vaiko has described Indian participation as ‘unpardonable‘, according to a news report by the Press Trust of India (PTI). The BJP government's move to participate in the seminar comes after it rejected entry to the members of the UN panel appointed by UN Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) head Navanethem Pillay to conduct an inquiry into alleged war crimes and human rights violations by the SL government and its military forces.
