People express solidarity with protests, low-key New Year in North-East

Eezham Tamils in North and East observed a largely silent Chiththirai New Year this year as the uprooted people in Mannaar and Mullaiththeevu are on the streets waging continuous protests along with the kith and kin of those subjected to enforced disappearances at the hands of the occupying Sinhala military. A protest march was staged in Vavuniyaa in support of the protest of the families of enforced disappeared. People wearing black armbands took part in the protest. In the meantime, occupying SL military personnel wearing traditional Sinhala clothes attempted to ‘celebrate’ New Year with protesting people at Keappaa-pulavu. The protesting people declined the offer and firmly stated that they would only celebrate New Year after getting their village back.

From ‘grease devils’ to ‘peace devils’, genocdial military's new shadow war against Tamils

The occupying Sinhala soldiers, deployed in surveillance against Eezham Tamils and the SL police providing judicial armour to the military, have again started to respond with violence against Tamils in villages where the people have mobilised demanding de-militarisation and answers from the SL State and its international backers on the whereabouts of their loved ones subjected to enforced disappearances. Two violent incidents have shaken the Tamil people in Vadamaraadchi East. In the meantime, the Sinhala military which posed as ‘grease devils’ in 2011 is now deploying ‘UN white-washed’ genocidal tanks staging patrols and exercises threatening Tamils. Eezham Tamils have now started to grasp the political and military dimensions of an international order that has been consistently backing the physical and structural genocide against them, commented Tamil activists in Vanni.

CBK draws flak in Jaffna

Former SL President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga (CBK), who is the Chairperson of so-called Office For National Unity (ONUR) visited Jaffna on Saturday and addressed the Tamil audience along with NPC Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran at Pazhai Veeman-kaamam in Thellip-pazhai, where she laid foundation stone for a Primary Health Care Centre. She was confronted by an uprooted mother, Ms Sarasvathy Tharmalingam, who demanded demilitarisation of villages with houses, properties and agricultural lands of more than 3,000 families just 500 meters away from the site of the event. NPC Chief Minister also went on record exposing serious lack in the so-called Peacebuilding Priority Plan (PPP) framework, which has excluded the participation of the key stakeholder, the Tamils as a party shaping the process.

Handover investigations to international judicial mechanism, NPC tells Geneva

While the uprooted people and the families of enforced disappeared in Trincomalee, Vavuniyaa, Mullaiththeevu, Ki'linochchi and Jaffna are staging continuous protests demanding the UN human rights regime in Geneva not to provide any more ‘time and space’ for the genocidal SL State and its military to escape accountability on international crimes committed in the land of Eezham Tamils, the elected council of Northern Province passed a resolution echoing the feelings of the people on the ground and urged the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to refer the case to an international judicial mechanism. “[W]ithout truth, justice and an equitable political solution, neither reconciliation nor permanent peace is possible”, the NPC resolution said and said that the international community should initiate a UN-mediated negotiation process to resolve the national question.

Resettling families in Pulavuk-kudyiruppu complain about lack of assistance

The uprooted people of Pulavuk-kudiyiruppu in Keappaa-pulavu complain that have not received any assistance to clear their 48 acres of lands that have been released after a long struggle. The SL Air Force, that has kept their lands seized has not used them, but destroyed their houses and infrastructure facilities. Not only the SL State mechanisms, the UN agencies have also failed to address their needs, the resettling families complained. In the meantime, 138 families waging a continuous struggle in front of the SL military base at Keappaa-pulavu have intensified their protest with a fasting campaign since Saturday.

Sinhala homeguards grab lands for colonisation in Cheddi-ku'lam, Vavuniyaa

400 acres of lands belonging to the people of Veerapuram village, located in Cheddik-ku'lam Divisional Secretariat division of Vavuniyaa district, are being seized by Sinhala homeguards. The land grab is aimed at creating a Sinhala colony, Tamil villagers complain. Tamil villagers from Veeerapuram were uprooted during the times of the war due to repeated harassment from the occupying military having camps in the nearby villages that had been occupied by the Sinhala colonists. While some of the villagers displaced to Vanni, others chose to flee to Tamil Nadu through Mannaar.

Uprooted Tamils to launch mass struggle against SL military housing deception

The organizations representing the uprooted people from Valikaamam North in Jaffna, who are all fed up by decades of deceptions by the changing regimes in Colombo that refuse to de-militarize and allow the people to resettle in their fertile villages, have resolved this week to step up their struggle by joint action in the future. Only some of the occupied lands were returned at Keappaa-pulavu and at Puthukkudiyiruppu. The occupying military is undeterred in its project of militarization. The human rights politics in Geneva advanced primarily by Obama’s USA bandwagon had completely neglected Tamil demands. While deploying Tamil victims and activists at side-events, the discourse targeting regime change through appeasing the genocidal State of Sri Lanka, has only contributed to accelerated militarization of Tamil homeland.

British-recognised occupying SL military attempts rape in Ki'linochchi

A soldier of the occupying Sinhala military under the command of Major General Ajith Karyakarawana on Friday evening attempted to rape a 56-year-old Tamil woman at Santha-puram, located near Ira'nai-madu, where the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka is maintaining its so-called Security Forces Head Quarters for Ki'linochchi with at least three divisions of Sinhala military and SL Air Force. The rape attempt comes a few days after Ms Laura Davies, the Deputy British High Commissioner in Colombo and Captain Stuart Andrew Borland, the British Defence Attaché in Colombo, were according diplomatic and military recognition to the occupying Sinhala military in the Tamil homeland by paying a visit and receiving a memento from Maj Gen Ajith Karayakarawana, the commander of the controversial military base that has been operating against the Eezham Tamils in Vanni.
