Tigers intended ship as bait - paper

The Thinamurasu, the Tamil weekly with the largest circulation in Sri Lanka, said in this week's issue which hit the news stands in Colombo this morning, that the LTTE ship that was bombed and sunk by the Sri Lankan airforce on Sunday appears to be the vessel that went missing with the cargo of 81mm mortar shells meant for the Sri Lankan army from the Zimbabwe Defence Industries.

Paris assassinations remain unsolved

Last Sunday was the first anniversary of the killings of two Eelam activists in Paris. Mr. Kandiah Perinpanathan, head of the LTTE's financial section and Mr. Kandiah Gajendran, the editor of the Tamil weekly "Eelamurasu" were gunned down in cold blood by an unknown assailant on a busy Paris sidewalk. To date, the investigations have not yielded any publicly known results.

Canadian Immigration Law 'undemocratic'

On 18 October 1995, Mr. Suresh Manickavasagam was detained by the Canadian Immigration authorities, following the issuance of a security certificate against him. Mr. Manickavasagam, a Tamil refugee, was deemed a person inadmissible into Canada, under the Immigration Law. This controversial law has been criticized as 'undemocratic' and 'draconian' by international human rights and refugee organizations, including Amnesty International and the Canadian council for Refugees.
