Key Karuna Group operative, 3 paramilitary cadres killed in East

A key operative of the paramilitary Karuna Group, Iniyabarathy alias Barathy, was killed Monday night when the Liberation Tigers launched a counter attack on a group of paramilitary cadres who were on an ambush mission towards Kanjikudichcha Aaru forward defence post of the Tigers, Mr. Daya Mohan, LTTE's political head in Amparai told TamilNet Tuesday. Iniyabarathy was killed with three other paramilitary cadres in the no-man zone between the Sri Lanka Army held Manthoddam and the LTTE held Kanjikudichcha Aaru, located 5 km east of Siyambalanduwa near the border of the Moneragala and Amparai Districts.

HRCSL to formulate Rights education policy for Sri Lanka

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has been conducting a series of seminars with the aim of formulating a national level human rights education policy. Low voter turnout in Omanthai

Electric fence claims Mannar Police officer's life

Mannar court releases refugee returnees from TamilNadu

SLA soldier shot in Vavuniya, gunmen seize weapons

Two motorbike-riding assailants shot and wounded a Sri Lanka Army soldier at a checkpost located in Ganeshapuram, 6 km northwest of Vavuniya town, around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The assailants, who seized two AK-47 rifles from the soldiers, fled away in their motorbike, Vavuniya Police said.

Election travel restrictions at Omanthai Checkpoint

Leading Tamil educationist passes away

New resettlement village in Puliyankulam celebrates opening

Vavuniya was the venue of the initial Tamil National Resurgence Conference that proclaimed that an environment must be created to enable Tamils to decide their political destiny calling for the Sri Lankan Armed forces to vacate the land and seas of NorthEast.

Vavuniya prepares for concluding resurgence event, grenade explodes

Grenade lobbed at Vavuniya Resurgence Committe office Unidentified men lobbed a hand grenade inside compound of the Tamil National Resurgence committee Wednesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. No one was injured in the explosion. Witnesses said that two men who lobbed the grenade escaped in a motorbike. The incident happened while Vavuniya residents are making preparations for the third month anniversary celebrations of the 27 July 2005 Vavuniya Proclamation.
