Colombo's attempt to survey church lands for permanent militarisation foiled at Poonakari

0Three days after the last attempt to survey the lands belonging to 6 families and a Saiva temple at Paraman-kirray in the strategically situated Poonakari, the occupying navy of genocidal Sri Lanka attempted on Thursday to survey lands belonging to St. Jude's Church at Pa'l'lik-kudaa in Poonakari without prior notice. However, the Parish Priest of the church and more than 100 villagers blocked the survey department officials, who were brought to the spot with SL Navy escort, news sources in Poonakari said. In addition to the protest, the public spontaneously mobilised making a written signature campaign against the militarisation. The SL military intelligence operatives and SL Navy sailors were taking photos of the journalists who were covering the protest and recording video of the protestors in a threatening manner, news sources further said.

Eezham Tamils protest against continued military land grab at strategic Poonakari

0The occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka has planned to grab further 3,087 acres of private and permit lands in the strategically situated Poonakari, which is situated to the northwest of Ki'linochchi at the entrance to Jaffna Peninsula, Jaffna Lagoon and its location facing the Palk Bay and the opposite coast. The landowners of 6 families and an Amman temple blocked SL Survey Department officials for the 4th time at Paraman-kiraay on Monday. Around 6,000 Tamil families, dependent on agriculture and fishing, live in the heavily garrisoned Poonakari division where more than 30,000 Sinhala soldiers are stationed.

SL Governor condemned for justifying military-run preschools in Vanni

NGO sources in Vanni recently released photos exposing the SL military-run preschools where Tamil children were being made to wear ‘Civil Security Division’ uniforms with CSD and Lion symbols of the occupying Sri Lankan military. More than 8,000 Tamil children are attending the military-run preschools in Vanni at 270 locations. While the SL military is refusing to hand over the administration of these preschools to the provincial council, the SL Governor to North, Reginald Cooray, has rushed to Vanni last week to justify continued military administration of these preschools. Former LTTE members at three different locations were forced to sing ‘Sri Lanka’ anthem in Sinhala and the CSD women had to garland him after dancing in Kandyan Perhara style, news sources in Vanni said. NPC Minister P. Aingaranesan has condemned SL Governor's description of SL military as a ‘development’ agency.

Colombo deploys military to carry out extra-judicial arrests, hostage-taking in North-East

Colombo's military Establishment has stepped up white-van abductions and hostage-taking of family members of former LTTE members in the North and East in the recent weeks. At least 13 Eezham Tamils, including a woman, are being detained at the moment in the notorious torture chamber known as 4th Floor in Colombo, legal sources in Colombo said. Ex-LTTE members returning from employment abroad in the Middle East have been subjected to arrests at Katunayake airport. In the meantime, the ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID), operated from Colombo had taken two siblings of a former LTTE member in Batticaloa as hostages till the person they were searching for turned himself over to the TID, the sources in Colombo said. While claiming ‘good-governance’ and ‘reconciliation’ to outside world, the Colombo regime has reinforced Sinhala military rule in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils.

SL Foreign Ministry instructs visiting foreign citizens to North to obtain ‘military visa’

0The officials of Colombo's Foreign Ministry have started to cite an updated ‘news report’ in the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry website, dated 03 March 2016, in instructing foreign citizens travelling to the five districts in North to obtain ‘prior approval’ from the genocidal military of ‘Sri Lanka’, a Tamil visitor from Europe engaged in providing humanitarian assistance has complained to rights activists in Colombo this week. The latest ‘development’ comes after increased reports of abduction-styled arrests that have been carried out by Colombo's military intelligence in North. The Eezham Tamil visitor, engaged in humanitarian work from abroad for a long time, was recently lured into ‘think’ as ‘Sri Lankan’ by the ‘reconciliation’ desk of the foreign ministry in the country of citizenship.

Tamil political prisoners urge strong outside efforts to secure their release

Tamil political prisoners in Anuradhapura prison told a delegation of Mannaar Citizens' Committee and a Northern Provincial Council member from Mannaar who were visiting them at Anuraadhapura prison on the traditional New Year Day on Thursday that they had lost all the hopes in the Colombo regime, which had come to power using the votes of Tamils. The regime is adamant in not taking a principled approach to their release. In the meantime, the political prisoners, who met the delegation from Mannaar told TamilNet over the phone that they had urged the visiting NPC councillor to impress upon the Chief Minister of the NPC and other councillors to also address the plight of Tamil political prisoners with Up-Country Tamil origin languishing in Anuradhapura prison.

Occupying Colombo resumes arrests, abductions in Jaffna

32-year-old Jeyakanthan Rajadurai, a former LTTE member released from the custody of the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka earlier, was abducted at gun point by unknown persons, who came to his residence at Nu'naavil in Chaavakachcheari on Sunday, according to a complaint lodged at the Human Rights Commission office in Jaffna. The abducted man is now detained at Boosa prison, about 98 km south of Colombo, informed sources told TamilNet. There are at least 11 abduction-styled arrests that have taken place in Jaffna and Ki'linochchi districts in the recent days, the sources further said.

Road accidents involving occupying military escalate, jouranlists threatened

The increasing accidents and aggressive behaviour by the occupying Sinhala military is on the increase as witnessed this week in two accidents in Poonakari in the North and in Trincomalee. A 59-year-old Tamil mother and her 33-year-old daughter were killed Monday night near Vigneswara College in Trincomalee city when a speeding military vehicle crashed on their autorickshaw. The driver and another 33-year-old woman were rushed to hospital. At Poonakari in Ki'linochci district, a 23-year-old Sri Lanka Army driver of a military water bowser was killed and a civilian driver of a dump truck (Tipper) sustained injuries in the accident on Tuesday night.

Colombo media conceals rape by military in Jaffna village with discovery of explosives

An abusive and criminal Tamil man, recruited into the ranks of genocidal military of Colombo and deployed against Tamils, abducted a 16-year-old Tamil girl two weeks ago from Madduvil village in Thenmaraadchchi in Jaffna. The sexually abused girl managed to escape from the custody of the SLA soldier from the nearby Ma'ravaan-pulavu village on Tuesday. As the incident prompted anger among the public, the SL Police was forced to launch a search operation to capture the SLA trooper. During the search operation, the SL Police entered the house of a 31-year-old man and located explosives at Ma'ravanpulavu on Tuesday evening. In the meantime, Colombo-based media, including Indian and Western agencies, engaged in agenda-driven reporting, conveniently censored the chain of events and highlighted only the discovery of explosives.

Colombo accelerates Sinhaliciation, Buddhicisation in North

After the Northern Provincial Council requested the SL Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government in Colombo twice in November 2015 not to proceed with changing the historical Tamil names of the administrative wards of Nayinaa-theevu (Nainathivu) islet situated off Jaffna into Sinhala, occupying Colombo, through its ministries and the Sinhala navy stationed in the islet have been renaming the Tamil names of the streets in the islet into Sinhala. In the meantime, the SL Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Buddhist monks and the SL Navy are jointly working to erect a 52-feet Buddha statue facing the Palk Bay. The Buddha statue will be overshadowing and completely hiding the view of the historical Saiva temple of Nainaa-theevu Naaka-poosha'ni Amman from the Palk Bay, civil sources in Jaffna said.

Genocidal military rapists harass Tamil female teachers at Muzhangkaavil

The occupying SL military soldiers, who have been earlier captured by the villagers while attempting to sexually abuse Tamil women, have this week gone amok on the ladies hostel of Muzhangkaavil MV School in Ki’linochchi district. The SL military is occupying 10 acres of lands near the school, where the Sinhala soldiers have been deployed in large numbers at the farms run by the military at close vicinity to the MV school and the primary school. The villagers rushed to help the teachers at the ladies hostel as they shouted for help when Sinhala soldiers were trying to break the door of the building Monday night. Despite repeated complaints, the SL military has not been withdrawn from the residential areas of Tamil villages in the district.

SL Navy assault on Mannaar Tamil fishermen condemned

Tamil parliamentarians, youth leaders and provincial councillors from Mannaar district have condemned the brutal attack on 2 fishermen from Pa'l'lik-kudiyiruppu, Mannaar in the seas off Naachchik-kudaa near Ira'nai-theevu on Saturday. The Sinhala navy sailors who assaulted the fishermen using knives caused serious injuries to the head of the 37-year-old helmsman of the fishing vessel while one of the three sea cucumber divers sustained minor injuries at his hand. The two injured fishermen, chased away by the SL Navy, had to drive their boat leaving behind the remaining two divers. The SL Navy later handed over the two remaining fishermen to Muzhangkaavil police belonging to Ki’linochchi district.

SL Navy brutally assaults Tamil fishermen from Mannaar near Ira'nai-theevu islet

The occupying navy of genocidal Sri Lanka on Saturday severely assaulted two Tamil fishermen who were engaged in sea cucumber fishing near Ira'nai-theevu islet, located west of Naachchik-kudaa, where the SL military has been expanding its military positions targeting Tamil Nadu and India in recent years. One of the four fishermen who are from Pa'l'li-munai in Mannaar has sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The fate of two young fishermen is not known while the third one is admitted at Mannaar hospital with cut injuries to his hands. The attacking navy men were armed with automatic rifles. They were aggressive and were using abusive terms in Sinhala while assaulting the two Tamil fishermen with knives, the wounded fishermen told TamilNet. The brutal incident has taken place around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The university community in Jaffna, comprising the student union, teachers association and the union of non-academic staff gathered at Parameasvarar temple, which is located inside the campus of the University of Jaffna, to mark the largest event after 2009 to be organized braving the intimidating presence of the SL military intelligence operatives. Earlier in the day, former TNA parliamentarian and Northern Provincial Councillor M.K. Shivajilingam lit the flame of sacrifice at the historic Nalloor temple. Condition of hunger-striking POWs, political prisoners worsens

At least 31 Prisoners of War and political prisoners are either forcefully admitted to prison hospitals or their health has seriously declined as their fast-unto-death campaign reached the 5th day on Thursday at New Magazine prison in Welikade, Bogambara prision in Kandy and in Anuradhapura prison, former parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran told journalists in Jaffna today. There are Tamils from all the districts, up-country, Muslims and even Sinhalese who are alleged or accused for their involvement with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) among the prisoners who are on hunger-strike, informed legal sources in Colombo told TamilNet. A wide-scale shut-down is to take place in the country of Eezham Tamils on Friday demanding release of the POWs and the political prisoners currently jailed in the prisons of genocidal Sri Lanka.
