Thirteen Tigers killed in sea battle -VoT

The Liberation Tigers announced in the Vanni this morning that 13 Sea Tigers were killed yesterday around 5.30 a.m. in a mid sea battle with the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) near the island of Kachchathivu, north west of Jaffna, close to the Indian maritime zone.

Kilinochchi kerosene shortage continues

Although the actual requirement of kerosene in the Kilinochchi district for domestic usage and agricultural purposes - 3175 barrels per month - was brought to the Ministry of Defence’s notice, and appeals made by aid workers, the MoD has only approved 625 barrels of kerosene per month, sources in Kilinochchi district said today.

Kachcheri sources in Kilinochchi said today that 164 persons of the district were reported missing in 1998. The fate of 109 of these persons is not known they said. Eight of these were arrested and killed by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) and forty seven were released by the Sri Lankan security forces.

Amnesty International has issued an update to its earlier urgent action appeal over the disappearances of eight people in Vavuniya allegedly after being taken into custody by the People's Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and the Sri Lankan Army (SLA). Amnesty says the missing are still unaccounted for and has added another name to the list.
