Landmines wreck heavy toll on cattle

At least two cattle belonging to civilians are killed every day by Anti-personnel land mines planted by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) in the villages of Maasaar and Soranpattu in the Pachchilaippalli division south east of Jaffna said a Sri Lankan government official in the area today.

Injured in a booby trap

NGOs write to South African MPs

Civilian wounded in booby trap

A villager was wounded badly and his left leg had to be amputated in Kilinochchi district when he stepped on a booby trap on Friday December 18. Sinnathurai Ganesamoorthy was wounded when he went to Kanagapuram to inspect his abandoned house.

Shelling victim dies

Five die in accidental explosion - VoT

The VoT said this morning that 3 Liberation Tigers and 2 of its supporters died in an accidental explosion at Kilinochchi on December 15. Another member of the Liberation Tigers died in a clash with the SLA at Ambakaamam on the same day, the radio said.

Food relief for 55,000

Three Tigers killed - SLA

Three Liberation Tigers were shot dead by the government forces in fresh clashes in the Vanni region security sources said. Soldiers on duty ahead of their defences sniped and killed two tigers north west of Oddusuddan and another tiger member was killed in a sniper fire at Kilinochchi on Wednesday, said the sources.

LTTE attack injures five policemen

Five Sri Lankan Policemen, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police, were wounded when the Liberation Tigers fired a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) at the jeep they were travelling in, said Police sources. The attack took place at Omanthai, along the A-9 highway, about 13 km. north of Vavuniya around 6.30 p.m.
