Muslims next target of demographic, structural genocide in northern Trincomalee

After waging physical, economic and demographic genocide against the Eezham Tamil villages surrounding the Kokku’laay lagoon for decades, genocidal Colombo has intensified a systematic demographic genocide against Tamil-speaking Muslims of ilmenite-rich Pulmoaddai (புல்மோட்டை/Pulmōṭṭai/Pulmoddai) since 2010, say Muslim activists who have been confronting the occupation in all directions. In a recent in-depth interview to TamilNet, former Village Officer (GS) Abdul Salam narrates how the land grab has been systematically stepped up and jointly waged by SL ministries, departments, Sinhala Army, Navy, STF commandos, Buddhist monks, ‘home guards’ paramilitary and the encroachers from bordering divisions of Trincomalee and Anurahapura since 2010. SL Police officer grabs 10 acres of lands at Kokkaddi in Champoor

An SL Police officer, A.K.A. Sawahir, who chased away uprooted Tamil villagers who went to their village of Kokkdaddi (Vaddavan) in October 2015 on the instruction of Moothoor Divisional Secretary V. Yoosuff and the SL Forest Department, has now illegally grabbed 10 acres of lands at the same locality for himself with the help of the DS Secretary, allege the Tamil villagers who have been refused access to their lands in Champoor East of Trincomalee district. Kokkaddi is an ancient Tamil coastal village with fertile upper lands suitable for agriculture and farming.

The proponents want to preserve the unitary character of SL State. This means preserving the genocidal character of the SL State as far as Eezham Tamils are concerned. All the previous constitutions in the island have been rejected by Tamils. Knowing the Tamil discourse of the past very well, the external powers, particularly the West, is currently promoting ‘Quisling politics’ among Tamils. It is therefore vital to grasp the synthesis of the Quisling politics and regain the strength to address it through the approach embraced by enlightened leaders of Eezham Tamils in the past.

Belated OHCHR ‘discovery’ of US-UK paradigm, eye opener to Tamils

The UN Human Rights Chief, Zeid Ra’ad al- Hussain said to an audience in London on Monday that struggle against terrorism was “being exploited by governments” and risked undermining international rights treaties, reports Reuter on Tuesday. Zeid was telling this in the context of the outlook of Trump, May, Duterte, and the governments of Egypt, Bahrain and Turkey. The belated response comes as the obsession is mainly on heightened confrontation of the West with the Islamic World, and as the former paradigm setters in the US and UK are now in the opposition. A bandwagon of governments and the UN were abetting when the paradigm was set in the genocide of Eezham Tamils. Now, Trump and May only tacitly help moral vindication of the case of Eezham Tamils that was not coming through any formal ‘international investigation,’ commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

SL State Intelligence targets families of Diaspora Tamil activists in North-East

SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe's State Intelligence Service (SIS), which was formerly known as the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), is now going after the families of Tamil diaspora activists, who are living in the island, particularly in the North and East. Instead of operating white-vans and issuing TID notices, the SIS interrogators send couple of Sinhala policemen prior to their arrival. After reaching a house, the interrogators, who are in civil, start to ask questions filling out the details to the questions they have with them. Often, they come up with direct threats creating conditions of mental torture. 72-year-old Kumarasamy Navaratnarajah, from Navaali West in Maanippaay, Jaffna, was assaulted on 04 June.

SL military-run preschool children in Vanni forced to wear ‘CSD uniforms’ again

The controversial practice of making the children attending certain pre-schools in the Sinhala military-occupied Vanni to wear uniforms of the so-called Civil Security Department, a military outfit of genocidal Sri Lanka, has surfaced again, Tamil rights activists in Ki’linochchi told TamilNet on Tuesday. The CSD, which is an official SL military-outfit, is still operating the farms and pre-schools, where it has deployed around 10,000 enslaved ex-members of the LTTE as a slave workforce. Following strong criticisms, there was a brief period where the SL military kept a low profile in the practice of enforcing the uniform on pre-school children for some time. Now, there is another attempt of promoting CSD branded uniforms in the preschools in Mullaiththeevu and Ki'linochchi districts.

Women on protest vow to sail and seize Ira'nai-theevu with white-flags

There has been no solution to the struggle of 500 families from Ira'nai-theevu, who wage a continues protest near the coast of Muzhangkaavil, facing the Palk Strait from the Vanni mainland, 12 nautical miles away from their native twin-islands of Ira'nai-theevu. The women, who used to be actively engaged in five different means of livelihood before 1992, stay in the protest site during the day time and their husbands continue the protest during the nights after coming from the seas. “This protest, launched on May 01, will continue even if it reaches 100 days. Finally, if there is no solution, we will enter Ira’nai-theevu disregarding the warnings of SL Navy, carrying white flags in our boats,” 54-year-old Atputharany Anton told TamilNet in a video interview on Sunday.

IMF agenda, new SL Finance Minister to manipulate Diaspora Tamils

The advisors of the International Moneteray Fund (IMF) and the World Bank were instrumental in allowing the genocidal State of Sri Lanka to wage the onslaught on Vanni in 2009. This was clearly exposed by an email exchange dated 04 May 2009, which was between the then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and one of her key political consultant Burns Strider. The same IMF has now determined who is to be the Finance Minister in the island. This is part of an unwritten and unspoken condition from the deliberations between the IMF and the genocidal State as part of a three-year Extended Fund Facility arrangement, informed circles in Colombo told TamilNet this week. As part of the secret deliberations, the Colombo Establishment was under extreme pressure from the external quarters attached to the IMF to install Mangala Samaraweera as Finance Minister.

Rigid military ‘pass system’ continues to restrict freedom of movement in Paduvaankarai

The Community Based Organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations visiting the area are being redirected to Welikanda military base (Polonnaruwa district) with the instruction to secure permission to their entry into Paduvaan-karai in Batticaloa with a pass document. Around 5,000 Tamil families live in the area which comes under Koa'ra'laip-pattu South (Kiraan) division.

Resettled Tamils complain increased harassments by SL military at Kudumpi-malai

The deployment of Sinhala military belonging to 232 Brigade Headquarters of the occupying Sinhala military at Kudumpi-malai (which is also known as Thoppik-kal and Baron’s Cap) in the interior of the northwestern hinterland of Batticaloa is not only a demographic and structural threat, but also a cultural threat, complain Tamil villagers. More than 500 Eezham Tamil families were living there during the times of the LTTE. Only 120 families have managed to resettle there amidst the deprived infrastructure and basic facilities to them. Their temples are still under SL military occupation. Tamil Heroes Cemetery, which was the largest one in the district, has been fully bulldozed and a Sinhala military base is built there. Monuments of SL military’s genocidal victory are showcased to the Sinhala visitors, who are promoted to tour the area as visitors to ‘Thoppigala Heritage Park’.

Irish, Tamil, Sinhala activists expose British colonialism as root cause of their national conflicts

Rev Fr M V E Ravichandran, a civil society activist from Jaffna, also participated in the event. Sinn Féin politician Pat Sheehan said people should not look at the conflict in Ireland through the prism of colonialism. The conflict in Ireland is about Colonialism, he said. Professor Jude Lal explained how the Colonialism formed the genocidal SL State.

Remembrance Day echoes strengthened resolve against military occupation

Professor Jude Lal Fernando of Trinity College, Dublin, an exiled Sinhala activist who has been actively engaged in seeking global justice to Tamil genocide said the idea to mark Mu’l’livaaykkaal Remembrance in the north of Ireland this year was conceived with due respect to the parity of status promoted by the Irish during the peace process between the LTTE and the Colombo government in 2006.

No action from Sirisena on withdrawing Sinhala colonists from pasturelands of Batticaloa

Tamil dairy farmers from interior Batticaloa, particularly those from Mayilaththa-madu and Maathava’nai in Kora’laip-pattu South (Kiraan) division, have been repeatedly complaining about large-scale Sinhala colonization taking place in the pasturelands of the country of Eezham Tamils since their area was seized by occupying Colombo from the protection of LTTE in 2007. After years of continuous agitation, the intrusion was halted to some extent a year ago. But, SL President Sirisena’s settler colonist goons continue to sustain their properties and huts in the pasturelands, Tamil farmers complain. According to court orders the illegal settlements including the huts should have been removed and activities such as agriculture in pasturelands should not take place. But, nothing has been removed so far, the Tamil farmers say.

Sinhalicisation targets strategic Pulmoaddai, Muslims complain

Tamil-speaking Muslims four GS divisions that come under Pulmoaddai, which is situated 52 kilometres north of Trincomalee, are now being confronted by Sinhala colonists from the bordering Sinhala-majoritarian division of Padavi Sri Pura, complain Muslim activists in the East. Pulmoaddai, located in Kuchchave'li division of Trincomalee district, is bordering Mullaiththeevu district in the North and the lagoon of Kokku’laay separates the two districts. The Ilmenite-rich Pulmoaddai lies on the southern edge of the lagoon. The hinterland in the northwest was made part of Sinhalicised Ma'na'l-aa'ru (Weli Oya) military zone in early 1980s and was transformed into a Sinhala-only division after the genocidal onslaught on Vanni in 2009. The occupying Colombo is now moving ahead with its plan of Sinhalicisation targeting Pulmoaddai.

TNA under fire for dealing with SL military commanders at district-level

EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran has urged the elected Tamil parliamentarians to refrain from engaging directly with SL military on the issue of releasing private lands. The burning problem of military land grab of private lands should be addressed to the elected leaders in the South. It is the duty of the SL President, who is an elected leader to instruct the military to immediately hand over the lands seized from private land-owners, Mr Premachandran said at a press conference held in Jaffna on Tuesday. The SL President is also the Commander-in-Chief of the occupying Sinhala military.

Colombo wants discarded confessions obtained through torture reused against political prisoners

Colombo's Attorney General's Department and the judges appointed with a pre-determined agenda to the so-called Special Courts to hear the cases of Tamil prisoners, are trying to accord new ‘credibility’ to confessions obtained through torture to sentence Tamil political prisoners with long term imprisonment, say political prisoners in Anuradhapura. The false confessions allegedly obtained through torture were being dismissed by the courts in North-East. The SL State responded through its Attorney General’s Department deploying various tactics to transfer these cases to the so-called Special Courts with an intention of punishing the Tamil political prisoners as criminal offenders. Tamil political prisoners are going to agitate against the move and seek support from Tamil activists in the island and outside.

Genocidal Colombo sentences 60-year-old Tamil activist to 20 years in prison

After the genocidal State of Sri Lanka was once again given ‘time and space’ at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the SL judiciary sentenced a prominent Tamil political prisoner, 60-year-old Thevathasan Kanagasabai, with 20 years of imprisonment accusing the former director of the Tamil unit of the ‘National Film Corporation’. Mr Thevathasan has been serving the film corporation as a board member for long time and was finally awarded with the director post to lead the Tamil Unit by the SL government in 2004. Later, he was accused of assisting the LTTE Black Tigers in Colombo. The film corporation director, who has been promoting the cinema of Eezham Tamils, hails from a family with leftist background at Karaveddi in Jaffna.

Uprooted Tamils in Mannaaar launch continuous protest braving SL Navy threat

Around 120 uprooted Tamil villagers from Mu'l'lik-ku'lam in Musali divison of Mannaar mainland on Thursday morning launched a protest with a vow to continue and step up their struggle to liberate their village. The struggle was inspired by the continuous protest by the people of Keappaa-pulavu in Mullaith-theevu district, who have been waging their struggle for almost two months now. The uprooted Tamils residing at Malang-ku'lam and Kaayaa-kuzhi gathered along Mannaar - Puththa'lam Highway announcing their struggle. SL Navy and a Sinhala Assistant Divisional Secretary were threatening and harassing the people to end their protest. However, the protest continues.

Colombo deploys Sinhala Military Intelligence personnel as CEB workers in Battialoa

The occupying Colombo has employed several Sinhala military intelligence personnel as meter readers and consumer coordinators of Ceylon Electricity Board from CEB branches operating from Kalladi and Kaaththaan-kudi. These workers, entering the houses of Tamils are involved in surveillance activities, say informed Tamil civil sources at Batticaloa District Secretariat. The district has already been struggling with Colombo appointed Sinhala workers in the public sector of the Tamil-speaking district and that too when there are thousands of qualified and unemployed Tamils in the district itself. Now, the military is also intervening into the public sector through its intelligence wing, the civil sources further said.
