2 Tamils shot dead in Trincomalee

SLA soldier killed, 4 injured in artillery duel at Northern FDL positions

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed and four injured Tuesday afternoon in a artillery and rocket fire duel between Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Forward Defence Line (FDL) positions in Naakarkoayil and Mukamaalai, SLA media sources said. The duel continues Wednesday with both sides intensifying the attacks.

TNA urges inquiry into East killings

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentary Group leader R. Sampanthan told the Sri Lanka Parliament Tuesday, the Government of Sri Lanka should appoint a commission, consisting retired judges, to investigate the killings of the Tamil civilians during the recent military offensives in the East, parliamentary sources said. He suggested that a Muslim should lead the commission with members appointed from three communities, Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese.

46 civilians arrested in Dehiwala, Gampaha

U.S. Air Force medics collaborate with Sri Lankan forces in healing "liberated" East

HRW also condemned Colombo's dismissal of international critics as “traitors,” and “terrorist sympathizers.”

The seven civilians, with ages ranging from 20 to 34, from the areas of Kodikaamam, Meesaalai, Chavakachcheari, Urumpiraai and Jaffna, sought protection at the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and SLA-backed paramilitaries Monday, HRC sources said. HRC officials have made arrangement to place the seven civilians in the protective custody of Jaffna prison.

SLA said to be behind house burglaries in Nelliyadi

Five houses belonging to Tamils inside a high security area fully protected by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentries were burgled during curfew hours at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, civil society sources in Vadamaraadchi said. Two house owners were injured during the burglary, and cash and valuables with an estimated value of more than Rs 5m were stolen during the incident. Local residents accused SLA soldiers and members of the SLA intelligence wing of complicity in the burglaries, sources said.

Member of SLA Intelligence wing shot dead in Point Pedro

The victim was travelling on the main road in Thaddaatheru when he was shot. The body has been taken to Palaly military camp, according to sources.

LTTE's Rights group draws attention to plight of Tamil people

Selvy, LTTE's Spokesperson for Humanitarian and Human Rights AffairsThe Office of the LTTE Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, in a detailed report released Saturday before UN Human Rights Council session, drew attention to the human rights violations committed by the Sri Lanka State on the Tamil people, and said that more than 1974 Tamil civilians have been killed and 842 Tamil civilians were either arrested or abducted in the 21 months from November 2005 after Sri Lanka's President Rajapakse came to power. The Rights Group called upon the "international and UN representatives who visit Colombo, to also pay a visit to the Tamil homeland and to find out first hand the ground situation."

Mu'l'likku'lam villagers forced to walk 20km seeking safety

The local level government officials at Chilaavaththu'rai transported the refugees to Murungkan where they have been housed at the Government High School.
