Large search operation in Mannar

Mannar exit limited to fifty

Only fifty civilians are now allowed to travel from Mannar to districts outside the northern province each day due to a new regulation introduced this week by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) says TamilNet's Mannar correspondent. The SLA has issued its own special identity cards to permanent residents who live in those areas of the Mannar district which are under its control.

Houses damaged in rampage

Several houses in the village of Kudaththanai south east of Jaffna were smashed up by a gang of youth that had abducted a girl from the area yesterday. The Sri Lankan Police at Pt.Pedro arrested seven youth who were in the gang today and remanded them until January 28. Others are absconding sources said.

The 'merits panel' comprising of Judges Hon. Steven F. Williams, Hon. A. Raymond Randolph and Hon. James L. Buckley will preside the case.

New vehicle registration regulations - LTTE

The regulations cover all motorised vehicles, including cars,lorries, auto-rickshaws and motor-cycles said the sources, adding that vehicles that are inoperable are also to be registered.
