TNA MPs meet Swiss Ambassador

0Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Foreign Affairs Committee which met with Swiss Ambassodor to Sri Lanka, Mr. Bernadino Regazzoni, at the Switzerland Embassy in Colombo Friday expressed their concern on the reluctance shown by the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government to take steps to restart the peace talks, and urged the ambassador to exert pressure on the Government of Sri Lanka to actively seek ways to resume talks.

Nagarkovil students massacre remembered

Vajira Wijegunawardena, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Sri Lanka army's 23 Division. Head of Sri Lanka truce monitoring mission, Maj. Gen. (ret) Trond Furuhovde presided.

Provincial Folk Dance festival held in Trincomalee

Folk dance troupe of Chenkaladi Central College which won the first place in Northeast Provincial Folk Dance Festival was held Saturday evening in Trincomalee St.Mary's College Therese Auditorium under the auspices of Provincial Department of Education. Schools which won the district level competitions participated in the provincial level final competitions held Saturday morning and the winners were awarded prizes and certificates in the Folk Dance Festival held later the same day.

Rebuilding of Achchuveli Industrial Estate urged

U.S. urged to adopt balanced approach to peace

0Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentary group leader and the Trincomalee district parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan in a press release issued Monday in Trincomalee said that a meeting Ambassador J.Cofer Black, had with a group of Sri Lankan media representatives in Colombo, has "caused much concern to wide sections of the Tamil people," and cautioned that "failure to adopt an even handed approach could cause immense harm to the peace process." Ambassador Black is U.S. State Department's Co-ordinator for Counter Terrorism.

Missing person found murdered in Jaffna

The body of a man reported missing since Monday was found in a deserted spot in Nayanmaarkaddu on the eastern outskirts of Jaffna town Tuesday morning, Police said. The man, identified as Mr. Navaratnarajah Premkumar, 25, of Kattapirai in Kalviankaadu near Jaffna town, was hacked to death, according to Police. Premkumar was arrested and detained for many months by the Sri Lanka army in 1996, relatives said. One of his brothers is a member of the Liberation Tigers, according to them.
