SLA camps hit

The Liberation Tigers attacked the Kuchchaveli SLA camp on Saturday night, killing one soldier, identified as Corporal K.H Senivaratna, and wounding another, identified as Private S.V Priyantha. The camp, north of Trincomalee, was under the command of an SLA officer holding the rank of a Lieutenant at the time of the attack.

SLA appoints new Vadamaradchi chief

The SLA commander of Jaffna's Vadamaradchi division, Col.Larry Wijeratne is to be transferred out of the area with effect from April 20. Col. Wijeratne has been considered by the SLA as one of its best officers in the Jaffna peninsula. He was praised for keeping the activity of the Liberation Tigers under complete check in Vadamaradchi since 1996.

Accident victim bleeds to death

One civilian was killed and another critically injured when the motorbike in which they were travelling crashed into another belonging to the SLA near Aavarangal on the Jaffna-Pt. Pedro Road around 6.30 p.m. yesterday said sources in Jaffna. The injured were rushed to the Atchuvely hospital and from there to the Jaffna hospital around 11 p.m. last night.

Ratwatte visits Palaly base

Mine hits SLA tractor

More than two SLA soldiers were killed and several wounded when the tractor in which they were traveling from Maruthankerni to Vettilaikkerni in Vadamaradchi east was hit by a land mine attack carried out by the the Liberation Tigers yesterday around 11.30 a.m. in the morning said LTTE sources in Naagarkovil. They said that the tractor was completely destroyed in the attack.

Para-military soldier killed

One Sri Lankan para-military soldier was killed and a Sri Lankan Policeman was slightly wounded in a fracas in Batticaloa this afternoon around 1.45 p.m. said Sri Lankan Army sources in the area. The fracas began when two soldiers of the Razeek group, the much dreaded para-military outfit operating with the SLA in Batticaloa, were stopped by the Sri Lankan Police near Shivananda Maha Viththiyaalayam in Kallady for an identity check.

Torture victim admitted to Jaffna hospital

Sinnavan Mahendirajah, 36 was admitted to the Jaffna hospital today for internal damage caused by torture while he was in the custody of the Sri Lankan army Chankanai in Jaffna. He was arrested by the local army on March 3 and was released on March 12.
