New Zealand Tamils protest Queen dining with genocidal Rajapaksa

Braving biting winter and incessant rains, Eezham Tamils in New Zealand staged a demonstration on Tuesday in the capital Wellington and in the commercial capital Auckland, protesting the diamond jubilee celebrating Queen Elizabeth II dining with Mahinda Rajapaksa, the genocidal President of Sri Lanka. Synchronized with protests in London, the demonstration on the other side of the former British Empire where the Sun was never setting gained significance, as the Queen of England is also still the Head of State and Queen of New Zealand. Speaking at the demonstration, Queen’s Service Medallist in New Zealand, Mr. A Thevarajan pointed out how the colonial British administration, which for the first time introduced unitary state formation in Ceylon, ignored historical sovereignty of Tamils and denied even federalism due to its sluggishness.

Paramilitary groups deployed to grab coastal lands in Ampaa'rai

The occupying Sri Lanka Army has deployed paramilitary groups to grab lands that belong to Tamils along the coastal belt of Ampaa'rai. The lands seized from Tamil owners are later sold to settlers and businessmen from the South by the SL military. The paramilitary operatives, who interfere in land issues, have also been used by politicians to appropriate public lands. Latest reports from Kaaraitheevu division say that a Tamil politician, with the backing of paramilitary, now claims the ownership of a plot of land allocated for the construction of a children park in the beach of Kaaraitheevu village that comes under the Kaaraitheivu DS division in Ampaa'rai district.

Rajapaksa's proposed speech at Economic Forum cancelled

The Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) cancelled the morning sessions of the Diamond Jubilee Commonwealth Economic Forum where genocide accused Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa was due to speak Wednesday. On their site, the CBC stated that “After careful consideration the morning sessions of the Forum on Wednesday 6th of June have been cancelled and will not take place.” However, informed sources told TamilNet that the event was cancelled owing to fear of massive protests at the venue of Mansion House, which is near the Bank area in London, and problems of policing a demonstration of large proportions.

Rajapaksa visit to Queen’s jubilee evokes spontaneous responses

Diamond Jubilee celebrating Queen of England hosting genocide-accused Sinhala President Mahinda Rajapaksa evokes spontaneous responses from the leadershipless Eezham Tamils all over the world. The responses emanating from dormant anger are actually addressed to the so-called international community and more than that, are directed against the mediocre claimants for leadership among Eezham Tamils who would not dare to take a step without getting ‘signals’ from the masters in the IC, commented a veteran Tamil political observer in London. Commenting further on the Sinhalese in London welcoming Rajapaksa, he said the Tamils have no qualms about it. The Sinhala nation has every right to seek recognition and it should articulate in every possible way. Our problem is the adamant refusal of the IC and India to see that there are two nations in the island, he said.

Sinhala Army destroys statues of historic Saiva temple in Batticaloa

The Sinhala military occupying Batticaloa has destroyed several tradtional stone-statues at the historic Thaanthaamalai Murukan temple, situated in Paddippazhai DS division of Batticaloa district. The temple, revered by Saivaites in the East as ‘Chinna Kathirkaamam’ and the land of 25 acres around it, were declared in 1959 as a Saiva Sacred Area according to the decree entered by the Court of Law in Ceylon. The area, which was safeguarded by the Tamil Tigers for more than 12 years since 1994, has now been subjected to the intrusion of Colombo's Archaeology Department and the SL Army after the war. The villagers allege that Colombo is attempting to construct a Buddhist stupa on the land that belongs to the historic Saiva temple.

IC-directed Norway stubborn on ‘development’ bulldozing national questions

The evaluation report of Norway on its failed peace facilitation in the island of Sri Lanka had many points of criticism on wrong application of ‘development’ to the context. But Norway’s stubbornness in applying ‘development’ as a tool to make national liberation movements abide by genocidal and agent States created by the colonial order, and in turn to make them abide by the currently imagined order of the so-called international community, continue not only in the island of Sri Lanka but also in Burma. According to critics cited by Democratic Voice of Burma, the latest Norwegian initiative in Burma is being presented as “bait” for ethnic groups to join the government under its 2008 constitution. Having similar experiences before and after the genocidal war, the Eezham Tamils should not make any more mistakes, commented a political observer in Jaffna.

Syria evokes better response not seen in the case of Tamil genocide

The war within the same people in the regime and opposition in Syria, casualty wise much less in proportion to the genocidal war in the island of Sri Lanka in 2009, has evoked active responses from all the powers and the UN that were never shown in the case of the massive genocide of Eezham Tamils. The genocidal ruler Rajapaksa and his regime are still pampered by the world establishments, from the diamond jubilee celebrating Her Majesty’s Government in the UK to Buddhism celebrating Thailand, and from the USA and India facilitating escape route in the UNHRC to China, Russia and Cuba steadily protecting the regime. Nelson’s Eye will not help the world order. But Tamils have to realise that the failure of Tamil Nadu in 2009 and the continued failure of global Tamils in addressing the real culprits cause the disparity, said a diaspora activist.

Commenting on the recent sentencing of Charles Taylor by the UN's Special Court for Sierra Leone (SC-SL) for 50 years and the ruling by the UN's International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) giving life imprisonment to Rwanda's Nzabonimana, Professor Boyle, an expert in International Law, who teaches at the University of Illinois College of Law, told TamilNet, that UN's "International Criminal Court (ICC) has become a joke and a fraud. I supported it originally. But no more. It has no credibility whatsoever. It [ICC] just goes after tin-pot dictators in Africa while real war criminals such as Bush...get off scot-free... SL military confiscates state lands from civic bodies in North

This is once again vigorously demonstrated in the North, as the Sinhala military has started confiscating State lands from elected civic bodies in the North at gun point. The Sinhala colonial governor Maj. Gen. GA Chandrasri facilitates the process by appointing Sinhala Government Agents/ Asst. Government Agents in many of the districts in the North and by transferring Tamil officials not cooperating with the land grab for Sinhala colonies and the use of the military. Now the elected civic bodies in Jaffna too are threatened to give up not only State lands but also to agree to confiscation of private lands by the occupying military. Washington and New Delhi have discovered an Israel in the Sinhala State to groom in South Asia.

British Court finds Sri Lanka torture allegations credible, stays deportation

"Judicial attitudes have changed," and "previously hard-line judges are granting stays, mostly on grounds of risk upon return," said Barristor Paramjothy from a London-based legal institution.

Uprooted Tamils live with UXO threat, UN agencies silent on demographic ‘conquest’

Uprooted Eezham Tamils from the coastal villages of Mullaiththeevu district, denied resettlement in their own lands and forced to ‘resettle’ in Koampaavil resettlement-scheme, away from the radars of international media and human rights activists, have been abandoned without proper humanitarian assistance. Meanwhile, the families, clearing lands have been confronted with unexploded ordnance in the area that has been declared by UN agencies as clear of landmines. Last Sunday, 37-year-old Manoranjitham Asokkumar, a mother of three children, sustained serious injuries while clearing her plot of land. Local humanitarian workers, who gave photographs to TamilNet, alleged that the UN agencies had failed to even highlight the plight of the civilians who face the threat of landmines in the area, which the agencies have earlier verified as clear of landmines.

Tamil asylum seekers to be forcibly deported from UK

While the British Government prepares to welcome Sri Lanka's President Rajapakse to the Royal Jubilee pageant, dozens of failed Tamil asylum seekers are to be forcibly deported to Sri Lanka today, despite objections raised by human rights groups, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW) that there is well founded fear of torture of the returnees. Tamils Against Genocide (TAG) a US-UK based activist group released a research report Tuesday documenting details of evidence of the "risk of persecution upon return simply by virtue of the fact that they sought asylum abroad and also because of imputed political opinion regarding involvement with or sympathy for the LTTE."

Tamil youth in France pledge to uphold Tamil sovereignty

Eezham Tamil youth in France resolved to challenge the dominant global injustice against oppressed nations and approved of The Tamil Sovereignty Cognition declaration “as a principled approach to solve the national question of Eelam Tamils”, along with other resolutions regarding contemporary issues, at a meeting on ‘Self-Determination of the Tamil Eelam people’ organized by the Tamil Youth Organization (TYO)-France at Paris, on Sunday. Speaking to TamilNet, Gobina Mohanandan, media co-ordinator for TYO-France, said that the meeting aimed to give conceptual clarity on Tamil sovereignty and also to highlight the importance of raising awareness among the French public on genocide of the Eezham Tamils and the right of the Tamil people to self-determination.

Unique temple of Tamil folk heritage found destroyed, desecrated in HSZ in Jaffna

A unique temple of Eezham Tamil folk heritage, dedicated to Kooddaththaar, a deity historically worshipped by a soldier guild that got absorbed into the toddy-tapping community, was found destroyed in bombing and its rare bronze idol sawed off and stolen at the Vasanthapuram locality of I’lavaalai in Jaffna. For the last two decades the locality was under the ‘High Security Zone’ (HSZ) of the occupying Sinhala military. Recently, when some fringes of the HSZ were allowed for resettlement, the people of Vasanthapuram returned. Finding their temple destroyed and the deity missing they now worship only the pedestal remaining. Vasanthapuram is where the occupying military has built lines of a few monotype houses for the resettled people and often shows them off to visiting foreign dignitaries as an example of its ‘reconciliation’ efforts.

HRW urges UK to suspend deportation of Tamils
